Created by Aaron Guzikowski, ‘The Red Road’ is a psychological thriller series that chronicles the life of Sheriff Harold Jensen, who is busy tending to his fragile family. While taking care of his mentally unstable and recovering alcoholic wife after a cover-up, the local police officer is also busy investigating the disappearance of a college student. In an unexpected turn of events, he crosses paths with Phillip Kobus, an intimidating figure of a nearby Native American tribe, after which his life gets complicated further. While trying to keep peace between the small town where he grew up and the home of the Native American tribe, Harold finds himself in an unlikely alliance with Phillip, forcing the sheriff to give up his principles.
Little does Harold know that Phillip would not hesitate to haunt him and everyone who poses a threat to his close-knit community. The crime drama series is based on the real-life conflict of the Ramapough Lenape Nation at the Ringwood Mines landfill site in New Jersey and features Martin Henderson, Jason Momoa, Julianne Nicholson, Tamara Tunie, Kiowa Gordon, Allie Gonino, and Annalise Basso. The drama unfolds primarily near the fictional small town of Walpole in New Jersey, which serves as an additional character where the two communities go into battle.

Atlanta Metropolitan Area, Georgia

The Atlanta metropolitan area served as the primary production location for ‘The Red Road’ as the filming unit utilized multiple locales of the region that doubled for New Jersey. Besides the city of Atlanta, the cast and crew members were also spotted lensing pivotal sequences along the Etowah River in the city of Cartersville. The production team also reportedly set up camp in Acworth, located in Georgia’s Cobb County. During a conversation with Creative Loafing, Jason Momoa, who portrays Phillip Kopus, was asked about his experience of shooting in the metropolitan area.

The ‘Game of Thrones’ actor stated, “I loved it down there. I was hanging out with Radio Birds, we shot a little video for them and they’re fantastic. The coolest people man, I just had such a fantastic time. I’m really hoping the show gets picked up – I mean, I really want the show to go on but I really want to come back to Atlanta. I spent a lot of time with my daughter, she got into climbing the eagle at the Stone Summit. Oh, was it Buford Highway – amazing food, such good food down there, it’s actually kind of scary. Gotta stay in shape down there because it’s a lot of good food.” Apart from ‘The Red Road,’ Atlanta and the surrounding areas have served as filming sites for many movies and TV shows. Some of the notable ones include ‘Bugonia,’ ‘The Naked Gun,’ ‘Prisoners,’ ‘Baby Driver,’ ‘The Nice Guys,’ ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die,’ ‘The Fate of the Furious,’ ‘Ozark,’ and ‘The Staircase.’
