Adapted from the eponymous book series written by Andrzej Sapkowski, Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ is a fantasy action drama series created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. The fourth season returns with Liam Hemsworth replacing Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, who embarks on a new adventurous journey and deals with a series of challenges. The protagonist is separated from Yennefer and Ciri due to the Continent-altering events of the previous season. As the three pave their own paths across the wartorn land of the Continent, they must fight off many demons in their respective journeys.
Diverged and alone in the face of danger, they fortunately find unlikely allies along the way and raise their chances of surviving the baptism of fire. Apart from that, Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri also hope to reunite with each other with the help of the groups of misfits they are with. The fictional world, where the story unfolds, follows the pattern of previous seasons and includes various picturesque and surreal backdrops, emphasizing the fantastical element prevalent throughout the narrative.
The Witcher Season 4 Filming Locations
The shooting for ‘The Witcher’ season 4 took place in England and Wales, specifically in Surrey, Devon, Gloucestershire, and Gwynedd. According to reports, principal photography for the fourth round got underway in April 2024 and continued for about six months or so before wrapping up by the end of October of the same year. As the filming for the season came to a close, Freya Allan thanked her fellow cast and crew members, stating, “Mistle, Iskra, Giselher, Reef, Kayleigh, Asse. I love you all. Thank you for the most special season of @witchernetflix.”
Surrey, England
A majority of ‘The Witcher’ season 4 was lensed across the ceremonial county of Surrey, located in South East England. Following the patterns of previous seasons, the production team once again utilized the amenities of Longcross Studios on Chobham Lane in the town of Chertsey. Home to four main sound stages of varying sizes and eight “meganova” sound stages, the film studio also offers 120 offices, workshops, a parking lot, a 200-acre backlot, costume storerooms, and other facilities necessary for bringing different kinds of projects to life.

In the months of May and June, the cast and crew members were spotted taping important scenes at Waverley Abbey, the first Cistercian abbey in England, located a few miles away from Farnham. A few scenes involving the Rats were also reportedly shot on Hankley Common, a 1,400-acre nature reserve in Elstead. In addition, several pivotal sequences for the fourth season were also recorded at the Muslim Burial Ground, which is situated in the town of Woking, and the Crystal Grotto on Portsmouth Road in Cobham. Additional exterior scenes were filmed in and around Bourne Wood near Farnham as well as in Thursley Common, a natural reserve in the borough of Waverley.
Other Locations in England

For the purpose of shooting, the filming unit of ‘The Witcher’ season 4 also traveled to other sites across England, including the ceremonial county of Devon. To be specific, the areas around Haytor Quarry and Haytor Rocks have been featured in multiple scenes. Moreover, the forest of Puzzlewood, which is also a popular tourist attraction located near Coleford in Gloucestershire, also served as one of the filming sites, where plenty of night scenes were taped.
Gwynedd, Wales

In the later stages of the production, in September 2024, Liam Hemsworth and the rest of the cast and crew members also set up camp in the ceremonial county of Gwynedd. The glacially formed lake, Llyn Padarn, served as a prominent production location for the season as the scenes for the Battle of the Bridge were lensed on the lake and its surrounding areas, including the village of Llanberis. The crew members also built a temporary floating harbor on the northern side of the lake, near Craig yr Undeb (Union Rock), and a mock castle tower in order to facilitate the filming process smoothly. Furthermore, a few key portions were recorded at the National Slate Museum, located within Padarn Country Park in Llanberis, and Dolbadarn Castle, situated at the base of the Llanberis Pass.
