In ‘The Woman in the Yard,’ we get acquainted with a broken family whose patriarch recently met with a fatal car accident. After the terrible loss of her husband, Ramona tries her best to hold herself together and take care of her two children alone in the rural farmhouse. Not long after the tragedy, her cripling grief transforms into fear when a mysterious woman draped in black clothing begins appearing on the front yard of her house. With each passing day, Ramona notices the woman in black inching closer and closer to the farmhouse.
Scared for her and her children’s lives, she has the responsibility to keep them safe and away from the clutches of the evil woman, who constantly delivers warnings and disturbing messages to the family. Helmed by Jaume Collet-Serra, the psychological horror thriller features powerful and compelling performances from Danielle Deadwyler, Okwui Okpokwasili, Peyton Jackson, and Russell Hornsby. The eeriness of the mysterious woman is multiplied by the secluded location of Ramona’s house, which also becomes an additional character and adds to the horror.
The Woman in the Yard Filming Locations
The production of ‘The Woman in the Yard’ took the makers to different parts of Georgia, especially Athens and Bostwick. As per reports, principal photography for the thriller got underway in the last week of April 2024 and continued for several weeks before getting wrapped up in May of the same year. In contrast to the chilling tale, the cast and crew members made some warm memories on set and returned home with a new set of friends.
Athens, Georgia
‘The Woman in the Yard’ was primarily lensed in the city of Athens, which is the seat of Clarke County. Located at 900 Athena Drive in Athens, Athena Studios hosted the production of the horror film, which became the first major production to be filmed there. Home to four different sound stages, the film studio has 84,000 square feet of column-free stage space, stage soundproofing, ample mill and office space, 24/7 gated security, and a spacious backlot area. In an interview with The Credits, Stephanie Allain, one of the producers of the film, was asked to describe her shooting experiences in Georgia. She said that it “was the first time I shot outside of Atlanta.”
She added, “…this time, we were out in Athens, which is an hour and a half away – a college town, a music town, old buildings, and a cute river runs through it.” The consolidated city-county is also home to a number of attractions and landmarks, including the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, Sandy Creek Park, the Georgia Museum of Art, and more. Besides ‘The Woman in the Yard,’ Athens has served as the production location for numerous films, such as ‘A Plague So Pleasant,’ ‘Self Quarantined,’ and ‘Stillwater.’
Bostwick, Georgia
For taping mostly the exterior portions involving the isolated farmhouse of Ramona, the production team traveled to the city of Bostwick, located in Georgia’s Morgan County. The makers scouted the ideal property fit for the narrative and set up camp in and around it to capture the house and its surrounding areas. Moreover, the peace and quiet associated with the city of Bostwick worked well with the theme of seclusion.
When asked about the crew during the filming of ‘The Woman in the Yard,’ Stephanie Allain stated, “I think people are so grateful to be working. There was this mix of, ‘We just had this big strike to win all of our rights, to solidify our rights as a union, and we’re so grateful to be here working.’ There was kind of an up-leveled professionalism, I would say. Of course, sometimes you bring in your department heads, but the fun of shooting there is that, over the years, they’ve built such a good base of crew that you get great folks.”
