Paramount+’s ‘Whitney Springs’ chronicles the life of a young Black man who interns at a living history museum as a slave reenactor. He leads a rather content life with his white girlfriend. However, soon his life turns upside down when he delves deep into his girlfriend’s ancestry, only to find out that her ancestors used to own his forebears at the time of slavery. The revelation causes a shift in dynamics between the two, affecting their relationship. The musical dark comedy movie is helmed by Trey Parker and stars Kendrick Lamar. The drama in the protagonist’s life unfolds across a variety of settings, including the museum where he works, his home, his girlfriend’s residence, and others, adding to the visual appeal of the tale.

The shooting for ‘Whitney Springs’ was reportedly conducted in California, specifically in Los Angeles County. Initially, the shooting for the Paramount+ production was scheduled to commence in the spring of 2022. However, due to the director’s prior commitments to ‘South Park,’ it was postponed. Finally, principal photography reportedly got underway in October 2024 and wrapped up after a few months.

Most of the pivotal sequences for ‘Whitney Springs’ were shot in various areas across Los Angeles County, situated in Southern California. In the early stages of production in October 2024, Kendrick Lamar and the rest of the cast and crew were spotted lensing key outdoor scenes in Pomona. The city is situated in the Pomona Valley, between the Inland Empire and the San Gabriel Valley. The filming unit also reportedly set up camp in the streets and neighborhoods of the suburban city of Santa Clarita, located only 30 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.
From what we can tell, the city of Los Angeles also seemingly served as a shooting destination for the comedy film. In the establishing shots, you are likely to spot numerous iconic buildings and landmarks associated with LA County, such as the Los Angeles City Hall, Venice Beach, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, and more. Apart from ‘Whitney Springs,’ LA County has hosted the production of many movies and TV shows over the years. Some of the notable ones include ‘La La Land,’ ‘Mean Girls,’ ‘Little Miss Sunshine,’ ‘The Girl Next Door,’ ‘Arrested Development,’ ‘Malcolm in the Middle,’ and ‘The Office.’
