You Season 5 Filming Locations

For the production of the fifth and final season of ‘You,’ the cast and crew headed back to Joe Goldberg’s old stomping ground in New York, especially across New York City. Principal photography for season 5 of the thriller series reportedly got underway in late March 2024 and continued for the next five months or so before getting wrapped up in mid-August of the same year. One of the directors, Pete Chatmon, shared his experience on set, saying, “Man, I Love This Show. The Level Of Craft From All involved Is Extraordinary. Now, You’ll Just Have To Wait And See What These Creative Magicians Have Crafted For You 😎 But In The Meantime, Shout Out To The Cast + Crew For Welcoming Me + Helping Me Swing For The Fences. Very Excited To Dive Into The Edit.”

New York City, New York

The Big Apple once again served as the hunting area for the serial killer, Joe Goldberg, as the production team of ‘You’ season 5 set up camp in different parts of the city. Penn Badgley and the rest of the crew were seen lensing many crucial exterior scenes in the borough of Manhattan, specifically in the Upper Manhattan neighborhood. The street right outside the Bleecker Street subway station is featured in the backdrop of scenes involving Joe walking down the streets of New York City, seemingly in the hunt for his next victim. The filming unit turned multiple streets into film sets during the production, including 1st Avenue & East 85th Street and possibly 91st Street on Amsterdam Avenue.

Several pivotal sequences involving Bronte and Joe were also recorded at the iconic Central Park, where the characters shared a leisurely stroll. Located between the Upper West Side and Upper East Side neighborhoods of Manhattan, the urban park is one of the sites featured in the debut season of the show. Following the pattern of season 1, the filming team of the final season also set up camp in Silvercup Studios at 42-22 22nd Street in the neighborhood of Long Island City in the borough of Queens. It is home to a total of 23 sound stages, production offices, lighting and grip equipment, and various other amenities necessary to bring any kind of production to life. By utilizing Stage B of the film studio, the cast and crew were able to tape several interior scenes involving the Mooney’s under the controlled environment of the set.

Penn Badgley elaborated on his experience of getting back to the familiar stages. He told Tudum, “Returning to the Mooney set on these stages was particularly poignant because this is where we shot ‘Gossip Girl.’ And I hadn’t really been back here except for one day of camera testing a long time ago. So it was creating new memories but with something that is already also quite iconic.” He added that it was “definitely very interesting just being back here, on several levels.” Since New York City is where we first met Joe, the city has been synonymous to the show and the character in a way. Even Penn is of a similar opinion, as he stated, “I do think that the show is best in New York City. It’s where it started. It’s where it’s ending. It’s fitting.”
