Will Wernick is bringing us a tale of seeking closure! The director is all set to helm ‘Closure’ as his next project, from a script penned by Jason Rosen. The production is scheduled to begin on September 9 in Wheeling, West Virginia, and is expected to go on until October 4.
The plot revolves around Frank Morley, a man burdened by guilt after the devastating loss of his wife and son in a car accident. Unable to cope, he isolates himself, burying his sorrow in his work as a Prison Examiner for the Florida Department of Corrections. It’s Christmas, 1987, and Frank, worn down by years on the road, hands off a last-minute inspection to his young protégé, Alan, marking Alan’s first solo assignment. However, when Alan mysteriously dies just a week into the job, Frank is pulled back into the field, determined to uncover the truth behind his colleague’s untimely death. His investigation leads him to the decrepit Osceola Correctional Facility, hidden deep in the Everglades and run by the enigmatic Warden LaRue, who fiercely defends the prison and its staff against any blame.
As Frank digs deeper into the circumstances surrounding Alan’s death and the prison’s dark history, tensions escalate between him and LaRue. The danger mounts as a violent storm rages outside, while inmates inside continue to die under suspicious and gruesome circumstances. Frank’s quest for answers forces him to confront not only the sinister secrets of the prison but also his own unresolved grief. The story builds to a tense climax as Frank uncovers the long-buried truths that have haunted Osceola, culminating in a life-or-death confrontation.
Wernick’s latest directorial effort is ‘Break,’ which follows Eli as he delves into the world of Detroit’s pool halls after discovering his estranged father was a local legend. As he navigates this gritty scene, Eli must confront both the dangers of the game and his own inner demons. Prior to this, Wernick directed ‘Safer at Home,’ a thriller set two years into a pandemic where a group of friends’ online party takes a dark turn after they take ecstasy, turning their once-safe homes into terrifying traps. Wernick’s other notable works include ‘Follow Me’ and ‘Escape Room.’
Wheeling, West Virginia has provided the backdrop for projects like ‘Super 8’ and ‘Unstoppable.’ The state of West Virginia in itself has hosted projects like ‘Dark Waters’ and ‘A Rose for Her Grave: The Randy Roth Story.’
