Is Wondify a Real Podcasting Company? Is Drunk Sluts on Murder a Real Podcast?

The fifth season of Hulu’s ‘Only Murders in the Building’ has Charles, Mabel, and Oliver solve two murders. The first victim is Lester, the footman of their building, and the other is a mob boss named Nicky Caccimelio, who had a shocking connection to the Arconia. The murders become the subject of the new season of their podcast. While the previous season revealed that a movie is being made on them, they look to expand the reach of their podcast by getting signed on by a major company called Wondify, one of whose most successful podcasts is Drunk Sluts on Murder. Since Only Murders has a real podcast counterpart, viewers are bound to wonder if Wondify and its podcast are also rooted in reality. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Wondify and Its Podcast are Fictional But Important to OMITB Season 5

‘Only Murders in the Building’ is an entirely fictional show with almost all elements, including characters and companies, being made up to serve the show’s plot. Wondify is introduced in the fifth season as a major podcasting company. While Wondify sounds similar to Wondery, the real-life podcast network known for true crime podcasts like ‘Dirty John,’ ‘Dr. Death,’ and ‘The Shrink Next Door,’ there is no concrete connection between the two. With the season focusing on billionaires as suspects, one could draw a comparison with Wondery being owned by Amazon, a multi-trillion-dollar company, but the similarities don’t extend further.

In the same vein, ‘Drunk Sluts on Murder’ is also a fictional podcast that serves as a comparison for Charles, Mabel, and Oliver’s podcast in terms of popularity and success. For the fans who like the idea of drunk people solving crimes, ‘Drunk Women Solving Crime’ would be a great fit. As the name suggests, this true crime podcast has hosts, Hannah George and Taylor Glenn, and its guests solving crimes, ranging from personal stories to other real-life cases, while getting drunk. A similar concept is adopted by ‘Drunk History,’ which features a host narrating historical accounts and anecdotes while being inebriated. It is possible that the Hulu show’s creators looked towards Wondery and the real-life podcasts with drunk hosts as inspirations for Wondify and ‘Drunk Sluts on Murder,’ but they remain fictional, serving a greater purpose for the plot of the fifth season.

Wondify comes into the picture when Mable lies to Althea, who is now a popular pop artist who goes by THÉ, about getting signed on by Wondify because she doesn’t want to come across as less successful than her former friend. When Mable’s podcast is compared with ‘Drunk Sluts on Murder,’ which is more popular and ranks much higher on the charts, she is prompted to talk about getting a deal with the podcast company. But once she’s said it, she knows that she must make it happen. At the end of Episode 4, she gets the deal she wanted, but it comes with a price that casts a dark shadow on the current investigation as well as the future of the podcast.
