In the episode titled ‘Mother’s Day Malice’ of Investigation Discovery’s ‘Evil Lives Here,’ the primary focus is on the life-threatening attack on the mother of two, Yolanda McRavin, on Mother’s Day 2011. The detectives launched a manhunt for the attacker, who was apprehended not long after the shooting. While Yolanda was fighting for her life at the hospital, her children prayed for her well-being. The documentary features an emotional and insightful interview with her daughter, Deon, who delved deep into the life of her mother.
Yolanda McRavin Was Violently Attacked by Her Then-Husband
Hailing from Washington, DC, Yolanda Marrow grew up in a seemingly supportive household. The Spingarn High School graduate got into a serious romantic relationship, during which she gave birth to her first child, a daughter named Deon Marrow. However, the relationship failed to last, and she moved on a few years later. When her daughter was about six or seven years old, she first crossed paths with Edward McRavin. As the romance sparked between them, they went on dates regularly, with Edward spending a lot of time at her house. Soon, the couple became pregnant, and he moved in with her.

Several months later, Yolanda and Edward welcomed their son, Arthur, into the world. After Yolanda tied the knot with Edward, the latter reportedly grew controlling towards her. Per court records, he reportedly made specific house rules and forced Yolanda and her children to abide by them. Things got out of hand when she and Arthur returned home late one night. Edward allegedly got enraged, so much so that he became violent towards her. Following the incident, she filed a restraining order against him, and the court ordered him to keep his distance from her and the children. The following weeks and months, he allegedly continued requesting her family members to get her to talk to him. As per Deon, he also stalked her and left a note on her car window, which frightened her for the safety of her children.
The Shooter Opened Fire at Yolanda and Her Son, But She Saved the Latter
Edward’s visitation rights allowed him to meet his son, Arthur, every Sunday at the Family Crisis Center in Brentwood, Maryland. On Mother’s Day 2011, the visitation was supposed to take place as scheduled under the supervision of the domestic violence center. Yolanda was accompanied by her sister when she drove down to the visitation center to drop Arthur off for the weekly meeting with Edward. Soon after she parked the car outside the shelter and got out of it with Arthur, Edward reportedly approached her quickly and pulled a gun on them. In order to save her son, she pulled him behind her and got shot. Edward attempted to shoot her three or four times, but the gun jammed.

Meanwhile, Arthur reportedly ran towards the car and called 911 to inform the authorities of the situation. By the time the police arrived at the scene, Edward had fled the scene. Yolanda was immediately rushed to the hospital, where a surgery had to be conducted on her critical gunshot wound. The police managed to track the shooter down through his cell phone. He turned himself in after reportedly being shot by a Prince George’s County Police officer. After a month of being admitted to the hospital, Yolanda fortunately recovered from her injury and survived the attack.
Edward McRavin is Currently Incarcerated at a Maryland Prison Facility
After his arrest, Edward McRavin pleaded guilty to attempted murder and assault in connection with the shooting of Yolanda McRavin outside the Family Crisis Center. On August 16, 2013, his sentencing hearing took place. He took the stand and defended himself by claiming that his plan was to take his own life in front of his family, but the gun had allegedly misfired. He further told the courtroom that he was not aware that he had shot the mother of his son until he woke up in the hospital a couple of days later. On the other hand, the prosecution said that the incident “completely shattered the lives of McRavin’s wife, of his son, of his wife’s family — the trauma that they’ve gone through — and he really has not shown any kind of remorse.”
Ultimately, Edward was sentenced to life in prison with all but 50 years suspended for the attempted murder and assault of his estranged wife, Yolanda. After the sentencing, the prosecution stated, “Anyone who would attempt to take the lives of their own wife and son is clearly a danger to our community. Mr. McRavin has shown no real remorse for his actions, only trying to excuse them away. I am very pleased that he will spend the majority of the rest of his life behind bars.” As of today, Edward is serving his sentence at Jessup Correctional Institution in Jessup, Maryland.
