Another Self Season 3 Plot Recap

‘Another Self’ season 3 begins a few months after Sevgi and Fiko’s grand marriage, and all seems well in Ayvalik. Ada wishes to start her own clinic, blending surgical and medical knowledge with psychospiritual therapy, but even conceptualizing this proves to be quite the challenge. Meanwhile, Sevgi and Fiko are preparing to adopt a child and manage to get a date for an interview with the orphanage to determine if they’re suitable candidates. For Leyla, though, life quickly takes on a more unpredictable turn as she’s introduced to a chef at work, named Yorgos, whom she cannot help but have feelings for. Amidst all of this, the three best friends stick together, not realizing that their individual as well as collective lives are about to be taken in by a storm.

Ozgur, a man Ada hit it off with during a plane journey, helps her figure out her family tree and locate her estranged, deceased father. As it turns out, he left during her childhood to be with his second family and has a daughter named Deniz, who is eager to make contact. From the moment she moves into Ada’s house, however, it becomes clear that the two of them are not in sync, in no small part due to the differences in their childhood. Meanwhile, a similar turn takes place in Sevgi’s life, as Fiko’s estranged father arrives home just as the orphanage is about to give them a green light. The situation turns dysfunctional very quickly, leading to the adoption request being rejected. Anguished, Sevgi convinces Fiko to send his father to a different house, but the old man retaliates by going off on his own.

While Fiko’s father is eventually found, the small problems in the lives of Ada, Leyla, and Sevgi prove to be too much to bear. The breakthrough comes from Ada, who decides to go through with her therapeutic clinic and invites her sister, Ozgur, Fiko’s dad, and many others for a session. There, they manage to unload years of suppressed emotions and come out as a better version of themselves. Ada and Deniz reconcile as Leyla reaches an agreement with Yorgos, whereas Fiko’s father beats his alcohol addiction. This opens the doors to Fiko and Sevgi adopting a girl named Halime, and together they navigate trauma and create a much more positive living environment for all. However, their journey is far from over, and the darkest turn in this story still awaits.

Another Self Season 3 Ending: Is Sevgi Dead? Who Killed Her and Why?

‘Another Self’ season 3 ends with the death of Sevgi at the hands of Ali, the nephew of former antagonist Yakup, who has been plotting his revenge from behind bars this entire time. Though the scene is foreshadowed with flash-forward snippets in the buildup to the finale, nothing can quite prepare us for this sharp turn in the story. The tragedy begins on an unassuming morning as Sevgi heads for work after kissing her daughter and husband goodbye. While walking the familiar streets, however, she is ambushed by a masked assailant who stabs her in the stomach and slips away, leaving her to bleed helplessly for quite some time. While it’s not shown exactly when she’s found and taken to the hospital, we do get the ominous imagery of Sevgi’s photo frame falling and smashing into pieces, signaling that this was always going to be a losing fight.

As Sevgi is rushed to the hospital, Ada personally takes charge of the surgery, adding yet another personal dimension to this already troublesome medical case. However, even after taking out the damaged organs and putting her on life support, Ada has to come to the brutal realization that her best friend’s injuries are too severe. All that remains is the option of keeping her on critical support until a miracle happens, and while everyone seems to have accepted that trajectory, it’s ultimately Sevgi who chooses to write her own fate. In her brief moment of consciousness, she demands to go back home, even if it means taking off life support and endangering her life. For Sevgi, however, this has more to do with selecting her own resting place, far away from the unfamiliarity of the hospital bed, and with her loved ones by her side.

Having spent several years battling cancer, Sevgi perhaps has the closest relationship with death as a concept, which is why her story’s conclusion almost feels poetic on some level. After beating cancer and finding the life of her dreams, she’s met with a completely unforeseen circumstance, where a man she has never even met has enough drive in his heart to take her life. When Ali is eventually arrested, Ada personally pays him a visit to tell him exactly who Sevgi was and how big a loss the world has incurred with her passing. While the act itself cannot be undone, it reminds Ada, Fiko, Leyla, and many others of exactly how valuable life is. Their fight for a better future still exists, this time with Sevgi watching over them instead of standing alongside them.

Do Ada and Ozgur End up Together?

Sevgi’s death leaves a lasting impact on Ada’s psyche, remapping how she has approached relationships this entire time. While her dynamic with her half-sister is already resolved by this point in the narrative, it’s Ozgur’s return to Ayvalik that sets up another plot thread. In the end, Ada and Ozgur confess their love for each other and decide to live together, eventually starting a family. A flash forward to several months ahead reveals that Ada becomes a mother and finds the life that she’s been seeking this entire time. This feeling reflects best in the videotape left behind by Sevgi, recorded years before when she feared losing her life to cancer. Her message to Ada, where she lauds her professional success and advises that it’s time to take romance seriously, is still relevant, as Ada has truly lived up to the advice.

While Ada has had her fair share of romantic ups and downs in life, it isn’t until Ozgur that she finds a partner who can stand on level footing with her. He is the first to truly show a passion and eagerness to understand her profession, her mindset, and life philosophy, and Ada responds in kind, creating a relationship that is all about respect and transparency. Fittingly, before the duo comes together as one, they both express clearly what they want from life, and it’s only after their junctures coincide that it feels like the perfect time. With Ada and Ozgur becoming parents by the end of the story, we are officially catching the beginnings of a complete next generation, one that hopefully learns from its predecessors in understanding what true bonds mean.

What Happens to Ada and Leyla’s Institute?

The Olive Tree Love and Life Institute started out as a venture by the trio, and while Sevgi leaves the world too soon, Ada and Leyla eventually find a way to continue the project. However, that doesn’t mean that the project is sustained without Sevgi’s vision; on the contrary, she becomes the person to whom this institute is heartily dedicated. The story began with the three best friends putting their faith into an alternative treatment that merges the mind, body, and soul, and in light of that, it makes sense for Ada and Leyla to honor that spirit, even if Sevgi is not an active part of the creation.

The best friends’ dream of creating an institute almost doesn’t come to pass after Sevgi’s death, as Ada completely discards the acceptance letter for the grant and approval that she needs to get the complex up and running. However, it’s Ozgur who brings in a crucial change of perspective, convincing Ada that it wouldn’t be honorable to their memory of Sevgi to let go of this project. In reality, it’s Sevgi’s values that are truly at the heart of the Olive Tree Love and Life Institute, and there is truly no better way of recreating the magic that saved her life from cancer. Hearing this, Ada resumes work on the center with Leyla, and by the end of the series, we learn that it is now a full-fledged institute, set to heal many like Sevgi was once healed.

Does Leyla Leave Erdem? Does She End up With Yorgos?

Much like Ada, who finds love in the form of Ozgur, Leyla too embarks on a new chapter in life, shedding her ties with Erdem for good. While their marriage was already in shambles ever since she discovered him with Deniz, the real tipping point comes when she admits to being in love with Yorgos, the chef at Eleni’s Tavern. These feelings are evident from the start of the season, as by the end of their introduction alone, Leyla realizes she’s more excited to spend time with Yorgos than to actually run the business. However, the duo temporarily go their separate ways when Leyla decides to spend more time on herself, her education, and her friends, putting a future with both Yorgos and Erdem on hold.

Eventually, Leyla gets her degree and becomes the true master of her own life, and that gives her independence unlike ever before. As such, the first thing she does is to return to Yorgos to tell him that they can resume their relationship. Yorgos, in return, is overjoyed and seals the moment with a passionate kiss. All of this implies that Leyla’s marriage with Erdem has almost certainly come to an end, albeit off-screen. While we don’t know if Erdem ends up with Deniz, or perhaps someone else, it’s clear from the final sequences that he is still in touch with the family. Ultimately, all the characters reach a moment of catharsis in their respective arcs, and while it takes them to different places in life more often than not, Ada and the others are confident that they will always stay connected in spirit.
