Created by Nuran Evren Şit, Netflix’s ‘Another Self,’ or ‘Zeytin Ağacı,’ begins with three best friends, Ada, Leyla, and Segvi, moving into the dreamy town of Ayvalik with a rather specific goal. Segvi has been battling cancer for quite some time and now seeks alternative therapy and treatment in the hopes of a miracle. Over the course of this Turkish romance drama series, however, the trio’s respective stories expand and come to include many shades of life. By the end of season 3, we are led to believe that the life of their dreams has become a reality, but in a fatal twist, Segvi is killed by a mysterious assailant, leaving her loved ones to pick up the pieces and learn to smile again. While season 3 has been declared the final season of this show, fans are still curious if there is more story left to tell.
Another Self Season 3 is Designed to be the Perfect Conclusion to the Tale
Season 3 of ‘Another Self’ has been called the final entry of this series from the very start, which suggests that the creators have largely wrapped up the story already. As such, Netflix has very little reason to greenlight a sequel, and the only thing that can make it happen is a huge demand from fans of the show worldwide. The fact that the story already spans three seasons is a testament to how well it has resonated with the audiences, and with sufficient engagement, the creators may consider opening up the show to a new chapter. However, given how Sevgi, one of the pivotal characters, is now out of the picture, the path ahead can no longer follow the tried and tested narrative formulae.

Interestingly, the actual premise of ‘Another Self,’ that is, Sevgi’s enduring battle with cancer, is already concluded by the end of the second season. What we get in the follow-up installment is, instead, a continuation of the characters’ individual journey, specifically questioning their place in life now that the hardest stretch is behind them. With that angle already explored and somewhat exhausted, there aren’t many directions a potential fourth season can step into without the story feeling repetitive. As such, the decision to end the story with three seasons seems to have been made organically, and not because of pressure to rush the ending or axe the production, which is quite often the case with television shows.
Another Self Season 4 Can Potentially Be About the Next Generation
While the chances of ‘Another Self’ returning with a fourth season are slim to none, that doesn’t mean there are absolutely no plot threads the story can pick up on. Perhaps the most important development of them all is the fact that all three main characters now have children. A hypothetical sequel, then, can pick up on the next generation of stories, especially given how important the cycle of life is as a thematic concept towards the latter half of the story. In such a scenario, characters like Halime would take center stage, considering that we already have a significant amount of insight into her mind, as well as her traumatic past. At the same time, the story can retain its focus on Ada and Ozgur, who have come quite a long way and become the definitive dream couple of the show by the end of season 3.

Sevgi’s tragic demise leaves behind a gaping hole in ‘Another Self’ that can never quite get fulfilled, but the series finale comes close to honoring her presence with a neat tie-in to Ada and Leyla’s Olive Tree Love and Life Institute. This is another plot thread that can take the center stage if the show is greenlit for a potential fourth season and beyond. Ada’s style of blending spiritual therapy with clinical treatment methods is a very novel feature of the show, and can very easily become its most iconic. However, with how conclusive the tone and structure of the third season finale feels, it’s very likely that Ada, Leyla, and Sevgi’s story has come to a fitting end with the third season itself.
