Beef Season 2: Where is Eunice? Is She Dead or Alive?

‘Beef’ season 2 takes a sharp turn away from marital grievances and opportunistic blackmailing once Chairwoman Park’s more menacing business at Monte Vista Point takes center stage. The new owner of the country club finds herself in a bind when her husband, plastic surgeon Dr. Kim, accidentally causes a patient’s death. Although a cover-up should be fairly easy for the billionaire businesswoman, tighter South Korean regulations around money laundering put her in a tough spot. As a result, she decides to use the club’s general manager, Josh, who is already good at embezzlement, to regulate her illicit cash flows. Although this unethical operation remains smooth sailing for months, things take a turn when Park’s trusted assistant, Euince, begins to gather the reality of the situation. Yet, as she tries to go up against her powerful boss, it inevitably puts her own fate in danger. SPOILERS AHEAD!

Euince Makes a Run For the Authorities as Soon as She Lands in Seoul

While Eunice initially seems like an extension of Chairwoman Park, she eventually reveals herself to be a force to be reckoned with whose moral compass is stronger than her loyalty to her boss. She becomes suspicious about the fiscal inner workings of Monte Vista Point after Austin shares details about certain invoices with her that don’t seem to add up. As she digs further into the matter, she soon realizes that the country club is being used as a money laundering front for Park. However, the real surprise comes when her close proximity to the billionaire allows her access to her phone. Thus, Euince learns all about Dr. Kim’s botched surgery, which resulted in a death, and the subsequent bribes Park has been paying to keep the matter under wraps.

This confirms the worst of Euince’s assumptions about her boss and compels her to take action against her. Yet, without any firm allies in place, she can only rely on Austin. Therefore, he’s the first person she goes to after snagging Park’s phone and making her boss believe she had accidentally left the device behind before leaving for Seoul. This gives her and Austin a brief window to come up with an idea. The trainer tells her that they can back up the phone’s contents on a laptop during the 14-hour plane ride to Seoul. Afterward, once they land, she can return the device to Park, escaping her suspicions while he goes to the police with the incriminating evidence.

Nonetheless, the plan goes off the rails on the plane ride when Austin’s relationship drama with Ashley inadvertently results in the phone’s destruction. Furthermore, Ashley and Lindsay both become reluctant additions to the operation. Thus, Eunice has no choice but to make a bold decision once she’s confronted with Park again. She knows that the phone’s disappearance won’t go unnoticed, and her excuses aren’t likely to be believed. As such, she realizes she has to flee from the scene and go on the run from the billionaire’s clutches. Still, as a failsafe, she decides to leave the USB to Austin, instructing him to bring it to the police station later, her final destination.

Beef Season 2 Leaves Eunice’s Demise Ambiguous

The last we hear from Eunice, she’s at the police station waiting for Austin to show up and tie off the final loose end. Chairwoman Park’s wealth and reputation make her a dangerously powerful woman. Therefore, the assistant has no real chance of taking her down, at least not without hard evidence. Simple accusations won’t cut it as Park is bound to use her resources to wipe her ledger clean if she catches a whiff of any investigation unraveling on an official level. Furthermore, she has more than enough money to buy off any corruptible law enforcement agent that Euince makes the mistake of trusting. This also means that once the latter makes the decision to move against her boss, the evidence also becomes the last leverage she has to ensure her own safety.

Euince knows that daring to betray Park without success will have unimaginable consequences. Therefore, it’s crucial to her that the USB device makes it to the police station while she remains on the run from Park. Unfortunately for her, she has to rely on Austin for this part of the job. Notably, while she has been on an adventure of corporate espionage, Austin is stuck in a romance drama where Euince is cast as a savior who can rescue him from his deteriorating engagement with Ashley. Thus, while Eunice’s motives are driven by her sense of justice, the trainer is more influenced by his desire to win over her affection. The assistant is aware of the same.

For the same reason, when Austin finally pulls through and escapes Park’s clutches to make his way to the police station, he gives Eunice the update about the USB and the news of his breakup with the same gravity. Furthermore, he verbalizes his love for the other woman. Unlike before, Eunice can’t dodge the confession without the threat of setting Austin off and losing the USB. Thus, she reciprocates his confession and inadvertently ends up triggering an epiphany for him that ultimately leads him to choose Park’s favor over his loyalty to her. In the end, the evidence is gone, leaving Euince in an incredibly vulnerable position. The show ends without a follow-up on what became of her after her unsuccessful trip to the police station. Nonetheless, it’s unlikely that Park would be willing to forgive her treachery easily. Thus, the possibility that she makes Euince pay for the betrayal, possibly with her life, remains.
