Colleen Beyer had always shared a close relationship with her mother, Sharon Causse Randolph. However, things took a grave turn in May 2008 when Sharon was shot dead inside her home in Las Vegas, Nevada. It left her daughter seeking justice for more than a decade as she grappled with the loss of her mother. Netflix’s ‘The Widower: ‘Til Death Do Us Part’ sheds light on the investigation of the case and how Colleen remained actively involved during the trial of her mother’s third husband, Thomas “Tom” William Randolph. The documentary also features previous interviews with Colleen, in which she shared her fears about the impact the case left on her.
Colleen Beyer Shared a Special Bond With Her Mother Before Losing Her Forever
The life of Sharon Causse Randolph was filled with joy when she welcomed her only daughter, Colleen Beyer, into the world. From an early age, the mother and daughter shared a close bond, with Sharon cheering her daughter every step of the way. Colleen recalled how her mother was swept off her feet upon meeting Thomas William Randolph, also known as Tom, through an online dating website. The daughter also recalled how Sharon’s relationship with Thomas progressed quickly before the couple eventually tied the knot in Mexico in 2006.

Reports state that around three months after the wedding, Sharon made a will and left almost all of her possessions in her husband’s name. According to Colleen’s statements in an interview, Sharon was shocked when Thomas’ personality gradually began to change. Shortly after, she changed her will, appointing her daughter as the administrator of her estate. Colleen’s life turned upside down on May 8, 2008, when she learned that her mother had been shot dead at her home in Las Vegas, Nevada. On that same day, Sharon’s handyman, Michael “Mike” Miller, was also shot dead by Thomas.
The investigators soon focused on Thomas as the suspect after learning about his past relationships. They also discovered that he had taken out three life insurance policies in Sharon’s name, worth around $400,000. Furthermore, Colleen suspected Thomas, prompting her to change the locks at her mother’s house in the presence of the investigators. Ultimately, he was arrested in January 2009 and charged with two counts of murder with use of a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit murder, and burglary while in possession of a deadly weapon.
Colleen Beyer Bravely Testified Against Thomas During Both of His Trials
When Thomas’ first jury trial began in June 2017, Colleen appeared in court as a witness for the prosecution. During her testimony, she stated that the defendant was responsible for her mother’s death. She further testified, “It was just a few months into the relationship, and he wanted to get life insurance policies.” After he was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder and two counts of first-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon, she was left overjoyed. When he was eventually sentenced to death, Colleen stated, “I feel that’s really what he deserves.” However, she was left devastated when the convictions were overturned by the Supreme Court in December 2020.

During Thomas’ retrial in August 2023, Colleen again bravely took the stand to testify against him. When he was again found guilty of his charges, she expressed her relief, noting, “I’m so relieved, it’s unbelievable. It’s been 15 years, and it’s been a twisted nightmare.” She was further relieved when he was finally sentenced to 60 years to life in prison. Beyond her prominent role as a witness during both trials, Colleen had also been vocal about her mother’s story. She courageously spoke on an interview on ‘Dateline’ before making her appearance on ‘The Black Widower: The Six Wives of Thomas Randolph’ in 2024 to discuss the journey toward justice. Before the profound loss rocked her life, Colleen was building a family.
Colleen has found love in her soulmate, Michael Beyer. Over time, they grew closer before tying the knot in the presence of their family and friends. Eventually, they welcomed their son, Thomas Beyer, into the world. When Sharon sadly passed away in May 2008, Colleen had been pregnant for seven months and was waiting for her daughter, Katie, to arrive in the world. As of writing, she has channeled her energy toward her loved ones, seeking comfort in their presence. However, not a day passes by that Colleen doesn’t feel the void left behind by her mother. Beyond that, she has chosen to keep further details about her personal and professional life out of the spotlight and appears to be leading a quiet life.
