Damson Idris’s upcoming feature film will take him to France and New York. This is because the filming of Bill Pohlad’s biographical romantic drama ‘Miles & Juliette’ will take place in Paris, France, and across New York State starting this September. Anamaria Vartolomei and Xavier Dolan are also cast. Pulitzer Prize finalist Zora Howard wrote the screenplay.
The story follows 22-year-old trumpeter Miles Davis (Idris) on a transformative trip to Paris in 1949, where he falls into a passionate romance with Juliette Gréco (Vartolomei), the French singer, actress, and Left Bank icon. What begins as an intimate affair blossoms into a profound connection between two young artists- just before they became cultural legends. Dolan’s role has yet to be revealed.
Damson Idris most recently starred in Joseph Kosinski’s ‘F1: The Movie,’ where he was seen alongside Brad Pitt. Before that, we saw him play young drug kingpin Franklin Saint in FX’s ‘Snowfall,’ the Netflix action movie ‘Outside the Wire,’ co-starring Anthony Mackie, Jaume Collet-Serra’s action thriller ‘The Commuter,’ featuring Liam Neeson and Vera Farmiga, and Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s biographical drama ‘Megan Leavey.’ Idris’s next movie to hit theaters is Gina Prince-Bythewood’s ‘Children of Blood and Bone,’ co-starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Idris Elba, Tosin Cole, Viola Davis, Lashana Lynch, and Regina King. It will be released on January 15, 2027.
French-Romanian actress Anamaria Vartolomei is known for her performance as Anne in Audrey Diwan’s ‘Happening,’ which won her the César Award for Best Female Revelation, Queen Louise Élisabeth d’Orléans in Marc Dugain’s historical film ‘The Royal Exchange,’ and Haydée in Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière’s ‘The Count of Monte Cristo.’ She made her English-language debut with Bong Joon Ho’s ‘Mickey 17,’ where she played Kai Katz, a security agent. Her latest role was in Antonin Baudry’s two-part epic biographical drama ‘De Gaulle,’ dealing with the French Resistance during World War II. We will next see her in Fanny Liatard and Jérémy Trouilh’s movie ‘The Green Eyes,’ which centers on a refugee child who is affected by “the resignation syndrome” and falls into a deep sleep, taking the viewers on a journey in his dreams.
Actor/director Xavier Dolan has starred in movies like Stéphane Demoustier’s architect Johan Otto von Spreckelsen biopic ‘The Great Arch,’ Xavier Giannoli’s ‘Lost Illusions,’ Joel Edgerton’s ‘Boy Erased,’ Dolan’s feature directorial debut ‘I Killed My Mother,’ and ‘Matthias & Maxime,’ also directed by him. He also played a small role in Andy Muschietti’s ‘It Chapter Two.’
Bill Pohlad made his feature directorial debut with the 1990 movie ‘Old Explorers,’ starring José Ferrer and James Whitmore. Other movies he has directed are the musical drama ‘Dreamin’ Wild,’ about singer-songwriter Donnie Emerson and his wife Nancy Emerson, and ‘Love & Mercy,’ based on the life of Beach Boys leader Brian Wilson.
