Dan Stevens’s ‘Robocop’ Starts Filming in Vancouver in February 2027

Dan Stevens is all set to don the suit of the iconic cyborg law enforcer RoboCop in Prime Video’s upcoming drama series based on the titular character. ‘Robocop’ will be shot in Vancouver between February 1 and July 19, 2027. Peter Ocko is the creator/showrunner, with Adam Randall and Sam Donovan directing. Stevens is the only revealed cast member yet. The story is set in near-future San Francisco, where corporate giant Omni Consumer Products unveils RoboCop, a revolutionary crime-fighting machine powered by cutting-edge artificial intelligence and built around the face and heart of murdered police officer Alex Murphy (Stevens).

Peter Weller as Robocop in ‘RoboCop’ (1987)

Dan Stevens is the sixth actor to play the part after Peter Weller, Robert John Burke, Richard Eden, Page Fletcher, and Joel Kinnaman. Stevens is primarily known for playing Matthew Crawley in ITV’s ‘Downton Abbey’ and David Haller in FX’s ‘Legion.’ Feature films he has been a part of are ‘Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb,’ ‘Marshall,’ ‘Apostle,’ ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,’ ‘Abigail,’ ‘The Ritual,’ ‘Swiped,’ ‘Onslaught,’ and, most recently, the comedy drama ‘Babies,’ co-starring Anna Kendrick and Seth Rogen. He also played the Beast in Disney’s live-action ‘Beauty and the Beast.’ We will next see him as a serial killer in Season 2 of Paramount+’s ‘Dexter: Resurrection,’ slated to arrive on October 30 this year. He will also reprise his role as Travis ‘Trapper’ Beasley in ‘Godzilla x Kong: Supernova,’ which will be released on March 26, 2027, and Fifth Season’s period TV series ‘Legacy of Spies,’ which has yet to receive a release date, and is set during the Cold War.

Considering ‘Robocop’ will be a series, we can expect the show to incorporate a lot of material from the comics as well as new stuff, while making use of modern visual effects to make the cyborg look cool and customized, while keeping the aura associated with the character intact. It remains to be seen what new twist Stevens brings to the role, which has seen several variations since the first movie, featuring Weller, came out in 1987.
