Bravo’s ‘Below Deck Down Under’ season 4 introduced the world to deckhand Eddy Hounsell, whose charm and charisma are in his dedication, hard work, and loyalty on board Katina. The travel enthusiast has often described himself as a reliable man who isn’t afraid to let loose when required or with friends, and his stint throughout the show proved it. With him being a brand new addition, though, fans are now curious about who he is, his background, his career, and more, so here’s what we know about the same.
Eddy Hounsell Hails From a Tight-Knit Family
Born around the early 1990s in Upper Hutt, New Zealand, as one of a few children hailing from a religious and resilient household, Eddy Hounsell grew up surrounded by the beauty of nature. Whether it be vast green lands or beautiful waters stretching for miles, the outdoors was very prominent in his life early on, and he thus grew up with a passion for the same. He eventually ended up pursuing a career inadvertently involved in the same, but the fact that it takes him away from his family for long periods at a time is something he always grapples with.
After all, whenever he is working, Eddy has to stay away from home and live on board whatever charter he is on as a deckhand, but he always misses his family. His six young nieces and nephews, as well as his grandmother, are the ones he thinks of the most because he worries about missing key moments in their lives, but their support from afar keeps him going. Therefore, although he has the opportunity to live anywhere in the world, whenever he is not working, he doesn’t even think twice about returning to his homeland. In other words, the Kiwi continues to reside in New Zealand to this day, where he is surrounded by family, friends, and a support system at every step of the way.
Eddy Hounsell Has Been a Man of Many Hats Over the Years
It was in 2013 when Eddy graduated from St Patrick’s College Silverstream with a Bachelor’s degree, following which he kick-started his career in helping others. He found himself living in England by the time 2014 rolled around, where he served at The Oratory School, Witham Hall School, and Holyport College, covering boarding duties, pastoral duties, as well as educational duties. He then evolved into a Summer School Course Assistant at Eton College in 2017, only for him to be promoted to Summer School Assistant Director the next year. He held this post until 2020.

Eddy Hounsell’s Passion for Traveling Continues to Thrive
Eddy Hounsell has never been shy about his passions, and Traveling is his biggest one, especially as it enables him to embrace the beauty of the world, garner a global perspective, and enjoy new cultures. He went to Greece in 2019, New Jersey in 2022, Bordeaux in 2023, the South of France in 2023, China in 2023, Australia, Peru, Colombia, and Guatemala in 2024, Bolivia, Brazil, China again, and Uruguay in 2025. Most recently, though, he has been enjoying some quality time with his family back in New Zealand, all the while trying to push his videography and digital creation career to a new level. Honestly, we can’t wait to see what’s in the cards for him next.
