Eugene Richins Draws Strength From His Family After Linda and Eric’s Passing
Linda Kay Carter and Eugene F. Richins, AKA Gene, experienced immense joy when they welcomed their son, Eric Eugene Richins, and daughters, Katie Lin Richins-Benson and Amy Joan Richins, into their lives. From the beginning, Linda Kay Richins had been quite close to her children and was also overjoyed when she welcomed her grandchildren. She was always dedicated to education and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Utah. Linda also earned a Master’s degree in Psychology from Utah State University and later another Master’s degree in Education Administration from the same institution. She eventually began her professional journey as a drug and alcohol counselor. Linda also served as the Principal of Clayton Middle School in the Salt Lake City School District.
Beyond her work, Linda enjoyed activities like singing, dancing, and playing golf with friends. Furthermore, she loved cuddling with her beloved pup. Linda maintained a strong relationship with her parents, Charles and Joan Carter, and her sister, Lori Carter Anderson. However, she faced an immense tragedy when her father passed away on August 28, 2015, at the age of 82. During that difficult time, Linda found solace in the presence of her husband, Eugene. By 2018, the couple had been together for almost 40 years. Unfortunately, Linda passed away on March 26, 2018, at the age of 59 in Kauai, Hawaii. Eugene is now focused on running his cattle ranch, which has been passed down through generations.

Eugene gradually began healing, surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He had a special bond with his son, Eric, and they spoke on the phone every day. He even coached Eric’s sons in baseball alongside Eric. Moreover, the father and son had planned to buy a cabin together, since Eugene intended to retire from ranching someday. However, Eugene’s life came crashing down when he learned that his son had passed away. During Kouri’s trial, he bravely took the stand and spoke about how Kouri lied to him about Eric’s cause of death. After Kouri’s conviction on March 16, 2026, Eugene is looking forward to her sentencing, scheduled for May 13, 2026. Although a few years have passed since Eric’s death, Eugene continues to keep the memories of his son alive in his heart.
Katie Richins-Benson and Clint Benson Testified During the Murder Trial
Katie Richins-Benson remembered the day she received a phone call from her sobbing father to inform her that her brother wasn’t breathing. When the trial for Eric’s murder finally began, Katie testified against Kouri on the stand. She reportedly revealed that Eric had created a secret trust for his sons and appointed Katie as the estate’s personal representative and trustee of the Eric Richins Living Trust. While reminiscing about the good times with Eric, Katie stated, “We did everything together.” She continued, “We worked on the ranch together, we fished, we hiked.” Katie ultimately experienced immense relief when her brother’s killer was found guilty of murder.

Beyond the turmoil of her life, Katie loves working on her family ranch. According to her, it instilled in her a strong work ethic from a young age. She also loves spending time with horses, highlighting her love for animals. In her personal life, Katie has found love in her soulmate, Clinton Benson, also known as Clint. During the 2026 trial, Clint had also taken the stand and explained the steps he took to protect Eric’s property after his death. Before the tragedy, Clint was building a unique career for himself. After earning two degrees from the University of Utah, he earned his real estate license.

It led Clint to become a realtor and licensed appraiser. He eventually joined the Park City Rotary Club in Utah and the County Planning Commission. As of writing, Clint is employed by Salt Lake County, Utah, where he serves as their Real Estate Operations and Asset Manager. In the position, he manages the county’s 1,700 parcels and a $5 billion portfolio. He is also involved with Equity Real Estate, where he maintains his own real estate website. When Clint isn’t busy with work, he loves spending meaningful time with Katie and their children.
Amy Richins and Her Family Have Chosen to Keep Details About Eric’s Kids Under Wraps
Amy Richins was completely heartbroken when Eric unexpectedly passed away. Just two days after the profound loss, Kouri had reportedly punched Amy in the face and neck, which stemmed from a dispute regarding the control of Eric’s estate. In April 2022, Kouri was charged with assault in the case, and she eventually pleaded no contest to the charge in March 2023. When Kouri was found guilty of murder, Amy spoke about the swift decision made by the jury, adding, “Honestly, I feel like we’re all in shock.” She continued, “I think everybody was surprised. But I think the jurors did a fantastic job. So I’m just so grateful.”
As of writing, Amy has chosen to keep further details of her professional life out of the limelight. To this day, the loss of her mother and brother has left a gaping hole in her heart. She has been gradually moving forward on the path of healing, with support from her partner, William Andrew Swensen. Together, they often attend games at the stadium to cheer for their favorite teams. From time to time, the couple also enjoys visiting romantic and breathtaking destinations for dates.
While speaking about Eric and his children, Amy said, “Eric is deeply loved and missed every single day. We are grateful to everyone who has worked tirelessly to bring justice for Eric. Our focus is now on honoring Eric’s life and supporting his boys as we all continue to heal.” In November 2024, a juvenile court ruled that Eric’s family would receive the custody of his three boys, Carter, Ashton, and Weston. Kouri’s family wasn’t allowed a private visit with Eric’s children. Following Kouri’s guilty verdict in March 2026, one of Eric’s cousins commented on Eric’s children, stating, “They’re just loved. We have a lot of love surrounding them. They’re great boys, and they’re going to be fine.” No public reports currently provide further information about Eric’s children.
