Fading Grandeur Season 2 Cast and Plot Theories

By the end of ‘Fading Grandeur’ season 1, Leandro Ventura, Marquis of the Monsalvo family, finds himself in an even worse situation than the one he was in at the beginning of the series. He has managed to lose his house, the Monsalvo Palace, without ever actually selling it for a profit. His younger brother, Gonzalo, has incapacitated him financially, leaving him even worse for wear. Lastly, the title of Grandee of Spain remains as far in his fortunes as ever. However, despite the downturn in his luck, there is one positive development in his life: Sofia Carrington.

By the end, the Marquis learns that the businesswoman had lied about her identity, and that she’s actually Conchi, a broke single mother who likes to occasionally walk a mile in a rich woman’s stolen shoes. Yet, despite this revelation, he chooses to return to her doorstep, this time without any of his own deceptions. Yet, the fate of the couple’s relationship, and the general chaos of their lives, are left unresolved, which is bound to invite speculation from fans about the potential of a season 2. At the time of writing, no announcements have been made about the continuation of the series. Still, if any news of the same arrives soon enough, ‘Fading Grandeur’ could return as early as mid-2028.

Fading Grandeur Season 2 Will Likely Introduce Leandro’s Elusive Half-Brother

The family drama in ‘Fading Grandeur’ is mostly resolved by the end of season 1. Despite the bad blood between them, Leandro is amicable enough with his brother to still share a meal with him. On the other hand, their mother seems to have settled well in light of her husband’s recent passing. Even so, the audience discovers one piece of information that holds the power to upend the Monsalvo family’s entire lives. Throughout the season, it had been implied that the family’s patriarch had an affair with Rosi, one of the servants who worked for him and his wife. In fact, during his wake, Leandro’s mother had loudly and publicly relieved the other woman of her post for the very same reason.

In the finale, confirmation of this affair finally arrives in a conversation between Rosi and her apparent lover, Fidel. More importantly, she reveals that her affair with the Monsalvo patriarch led to the birth of a son. Rumors about the same had spread, but everyone had assumed the pregnancy was terminated. Nonetheless, the servant had given birth in secret, and the illegitimate Monsalvo son had been hidden from the world ever since. Even Leandro and Gonzalo seem to have no idea about this apparent third brother. If the show expands into a second season, this would be an interesting storyline to pick up. The introduction of an illegitimate heir would work as a great tool to explore the modern reality of the noble class and the ways in which its conventions have changed with time.

Fading Grandeur Season 2 is Most Likely to Retain the Original Cast

The storylines and themes explored in ‘Fading Grandeur’ season 1 remain intertwined with the Monsalvo family as a whole, even beyond just Leandro. The name once enjoyed the perks of nobility, but has now found itself on a steep decline. Family members like Gonzalo, who can fend for themselves, have managed to keep up with high society’s social circles. On the other hand, Leandro has remained on a steady downward spiral. The show will likely want to continue an exploration of these same themes in a potential season 2. Therefore, it would make the most sense to stick with the same cast of characters.

Thus, leading actors Antonio de la Torre (Leandro) and Alexandra Jiménez (Sofia) can be expected to return to the series. On the other hand, other characters who are members of the Monsalvo family can also be expected to make a comeback. This would include Leandro’s mother (Mercedes Sampietro), Gonzalo (Fernando Andina), Jose Manuel (César Tormo), Martina (Lía Lois), and Raquel (Ana Asensio). Other cast members who are likely to reprise their roles are Teresa Rabal (Cotola Moscoso), Enric Benavent (Fidel), and Alejandro Mesa (Guillermo). Lastly, new cast members can also be expected to join the project, especially if season 2 introduces the third Monsalvo brother.

Fading Grandeur Season 2 Might Further Develop Leandro and Sofia’s Relationship

The ending of ‘Fading Grandeur’ season 2 leaves Leandro and Sofia’s relationship at something of a cliffhanger. Even though the implication that the two have found their way back to each other remains, the reality of what a potential relationship between them can look like is uncertain. For one, the duo has only known an inflated, deceptive, and fabricated version of each other. The revelation that both parties were engaging in this deception in different ways serves as a twisted kind of bonding experience. However, it also raises questions about what their dynamic would look like once Leandro has to face the Conchi parts of Sofia’s life.

Likewise, the reality of Leandro’s own diluted life, now entirely robbed of any nobility, is something Sofia would have to reckon with. Whether or not the duo decides to jump right into a romantic relationship, start with a friendship, or decide they hate each other, these new discoveries about their lives promise to have an influence on their relationship in the future. As such, fans can expect the exploration of this dynamic to become a central part of the story in the event of a potential season 2. Additionally, if the two decide they enjoy each other’s company, through thick and thin, there’s also a strong possibility that they might team up to hatch a bigger scheme together. This could include an attempt to take the Monsalvo Palace back from Fidel, or even a return to Leandro’s previous aspirations of acquiring the title of Grandee of Spain.
