Gajab Raat: Is Mansarovar Hospital a Real Hospital in Delhi?

Netflix’s ‘Gajab Raat’ is the saga of a corrupt Delhi cop named Ajay Nirvit who finds himself challenged by circumstances beyond his control. It starts as a regular night where Ajay is busy conducting a raid on a local hotel in Connaught Place, but he’s soon ordered to go elsewhere and rescue a gravely injured girl who has been thrown out of a moving vehicle. Worried more about his day’s profits, Ajay reluctantly heads to the site of the incident and shifts the girl to Mansarovar Hospital, where the rest of the tale unfolds.

Ajay learns that he is now investigating a case much more complex than he initially assumed and that many powerful people, connected to various governmental agencies, want the girl dead before the break of dawn. The night grows intense, unpredictable, and dangerous as Ajay grapples with moral dilemmas that make him question his corrupt ways. Torn between saving the girl and looking out for his own benefits, Ajay must make seemingly impossible choices. Mansarovar Hospital is where several characters converge, driving the narrative forward. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Mansarovar Hospital is a Fictional Facility Where Conflicting Motives Collide

In ‘Gajab Raat,’ Mansarovar Hospital in Delhi is where most of the drama and tension unfold. Although a fictional hospital, Mansarovar has all the qualities of a real one and becomes a battleground for opposing ideas. As soon as Ajay takes the unnamed girl to the hospital, officers from the CBI and the NIA descend on the building, hoping to take control of the case. Mansarovar is a large and fairly well-equipped facility where qualified doctors and nurses work tirelessly to care for the patients. The girl becomes the central figure in the mystery, and her fate is decided within the hospital’s walls. Mansarovar can be compared to locations like Nakatomi Plaza from ‘Die Hard,’ director John McTiernan’s action masterpiece. The claustrophobic feel of ‘Gajab Raat’ is intensified by the fact that most of the story is set in the hospital.

Moving between parts of the facility, the narrative heightens the stakes for Ajay and others by portraying Mansarovar almost as a character in its own right. Be it arguments, fight sequences, or scenes depicting medical procedures, the dimly lit feel of the hospital lends a particularly unsettling visual tone to the story. Within the facility, certain wards become crucial to the girl’s fate. At one point, Ajay hides the girl in an isolated ward to ensure that those seeking to kill her are not able to locate her easily. In terms of storytelling, Mansarovar serves as the ideal vehicle for building conflicts between the characters and taking them to their logical ends.

Since the movie takes place over the course of a single night, the hospital also appears to be an isolating entity, making Ajay and the others feel trapped in mazes of their own making. Even the nurses, doctors, and other hospital staff play a pivotal role alongside the main characters. At times, because of the maze-like corridors, the hospital feels more like a trap, where anything can happen at any time and completely upend the fates of everyone involved. Ultimately, Mansarovar adds to the story’s groundedness and authenticity.
