On November 30, 2017, Kimberly Hickey and Jon Hickey Sr. began their day just like any other. However, their lives were forever altered when they learned that their 31-year-old son, Jon Michael Hickey, had been killed in his apartment in Baltimore, Maryland. What followed was a thorough investigation that soon revealed that the person responsible for Jon’s murder was a former firefighter, Daniel Joseph Greene. NBC’s ‘Dateline: The Killer on Camera 4’ dives deeper into the circumstances surrounding the murder of Jon and how it was revealed that Daniel was previously dating Jon’s girlfriend, Jennifer McKay. The episode also features emotional interviews with Kimberly and Jon Sr., who discussed the impact of the devastating loss on their lives.
Kimberly Hickey Has Remained Resilient While Keeping Jon’s Memories Alive
Kimberly and Jon Hickey Sr. were overjoyed when they welcomed their son, Jon Michael Hickey, into their lives on May 24, 1986. Throughout their son’s life, they ensured he had a safe space and cheered him on every step of the way. Kimberly still reminisces about the day she asked Jon why he wanted to become a firefighter. She recalled that he had said, “Because I need to make sure everybody is safe, and we can get that fire put out.” However, everything changed when Jon was killed in his home in Baltimore, Maryland. Kimberly was completely heartbroken, but once again found her strength when the trial of her son’s killer, Daniel Greene, was finally set to begin. In April 2023, Kimberly spoke on the matter, writing, “I am finally going to get the justice for my son starting on June 13, 2023.”

When Daniel was convicted of first-degree murder and other charges, he sought new counsel, which postponed his sentencing. During that time, Kimberly bravely stated, “I’d love to know what kind of evidence he thinks he’s coming up with because everything was shown in court. It’s a video showing him breaking into my son’s home.” She further mentioned, “I really need to have this ending, after five years, I need closure, and this should’ve been it.” Before the ordeal upended her life, Kimberly was focused on her career. She initially resided in Baltimore, where she worked as a Baltimore County government employee. As of writing, Kimberly has moved to Catonsville, Maryland, and has chosen to shield further information about her professional and personal life away from the public eye.
Unfortunately, it seems that the relationship between Kimberly and Jon Sr. didn’t work out, and they have parted ways. However, it is essential to note that in March 2026, she shared a picture of herself with another man, seemingly having a meal together. Yet, she hasn’t revealed the man’s identity or the nature of their relationship. Although Kimberly continues to move forward with her life, she often reflects on the cherished memories she shared with her son. While speaking about Jon, she once said, “My son would have helped anybody on this earth that needed help.” She continued, “I was proud of him for everything he was doing in life.” Fortunately, Kimberly is surrounded by her loving nieces and friends, who are a steady source of support in her life. She often expresses heartfelt gratitude to them, especially during the holidays and her birthday.
