Ke Huy Quan’s ‘Fairytale in New York’ Starts Filming in New York and New Jersey in March 2027

Ke Huy Quan is returning to the action genre with Jalmari Helander’s ‘Fairytale in New York,’ which will be shot across New York and New Jersey. Principal photography will take place between March and May 2027. Written by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, the Lionsgate action thriller takes place on Christmas Eve in New York City, as an unassuming cab driver (Quan) takes one last ride before celebrating the holiday with his estranged son. After a run-in with a gang of criminals, he embarks on a relentless pursuit to retrieve his kid’s priceless Christmas gift.

Ke Huy Quan is known by his fans as young Short Round from ‘Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom’ and Richard “Data” Wang from ‘The Goonies.’ He won his maiden Oscar for his supporting role as Waymond Wang in the absurd comedy ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once.’ His latest performances include Marvin Gable in Jonathan Eusebio’s action rom-com ‘Love Hurts,’ OB in Disney+ Marvel’s ‘Loki,’ and Jamie Yao in Disney+’s ‘American Born Chinese.’ He has also lent his voice to many popular animated movies, including ‘Zootopia 2,’ ‘Kung Fu Panda 4,’ and most recently, Paramount+’s ‘Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender.’

We have already seen Quan showing off his skills as assassin Marvin Gable in ‘Love Hurts.’ Whether ‘Fairytale in New York’ will take the same route or introduce Quan’s character in some other way that is unlike an assassin or some ex-agent, as is often the case in action movies, remains to be seen. However, we can expect some comedy involved as Quan is a master of the genre.

Finnish director Jalmari Helander is known for directing the action movies ‘Sisu’ and ‘Sisu: Road to Revenge,’ the adventure flick ‘Big Game,’ and the fantasy comedy ‘Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale.’
