Kenneth Branagh’s next show will be shot in the British Isles. The actor will film ‘Laird,’ a Paramount+ family drama series in Scotland and London between September this year and February 2027. Jez Butterworth is the showrunner, John-Henry Butterworth and Georgia Lee are the writers, and Joe Wright will direct.
The epic family saga is set in the modern Scottish Highlands, and follows a proud Scot who defies a shadowy American billionaire hellbent on buying up the glens. Amidst family feuds, buried secrets, and star-crossed romances, the Laird of Castle Drummoch Dair McRae (Branagh) remains determined to protect his ancestral lands from oligarchical land grabbing by billionaire Peter Hansen, who is motivated by his encroaching development ambitions. Meanwhile, Dair’s three children- Mhairi, Freya, and war-scarred veteran Malky- grapple with their own struggles amid the shifting realities of rural Scotland.
Kenneth Branagh is known for his performances in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dunkirk,’ ‘Tenet,’ and ‘Oppenheimer.’ We have also seen him as Detective Hercule Poirot in a series of murder mystery features based on Agatha Christie’s novels, which he also directed. With one Oscar, 4 BAFTAs, and 2 Emmys to his name at the time of writing, he is one of Hollywood’s most prolific actors. His earlier works include feature-length Shakespeare adaptations such as ‘Henry V,’ ‘Much Ado About Nothing,’ ‘Othello,’ ‘Hamlet,’ and ‘As You Like It.’ His other feature film roles include Dr. Arliss Loveless in ‘Wild Wild West,’ Henning von Tresckow in ‘Valkyrie,’ celebrity author Gilderoy Lockhart in ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,’ and Laurence Olivier in ‘My Week with Marilyn.’ As far as shows are concerned, he has starred in the BBC’s ‘Wallander’ and Sky’s ‘This England.’
In his upcoming slate, Branagh has the Apple TV+ movie ‘Mayday,’ an action comedy where he will be seen alongside Ryan Reynolds, which is slated for release on September 4, 2026, and Michael B. Jordan’s action adventure feature ‘The Thomas Crown Affair,’ co-starring Jordan, Aubrey Plaza, Adria Arjona, Danai Gurira, and Ruth Negga.
