Law & Order Season 23 Expected to be Shot in New York in Early 2024

The filming of the 23rd season of ‘Law & Order’ is scheduled to commence in early 2024 once again in New York. This iconic legal and police drama series has been on the air since September 1990 and several procedural drama shows that have followed were influenced by the same. Each episode of the series is divided into two parts, with the first half focusing on New York City Police Department homicide detectives working to solve a case and the second half taking place in courtrooms, revolving around the prosecution of the defendant by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. Given the immense legacy that the series carries, the upcoming season is sure to generate significant excitement and attention.

Created by Dick Wolf, the series originally concluded in 2010 after its 20th season. However, it made a comeback for its 21st season in 2022 due to popular demand. Dick Wolf is a highly acclaimed producer and writer with a long and successful career in the entertainment industry. He has received three Primetime Emmy Awards and numerous nominations for his work. His initial breakthrough came with ‘Masquerade,’ a 1988 film starring Rob Lowe and Meg Tilly. His notable works include ‘Chicago Fire’ and ‘FBI.’

When the series was renewed after a decade-long hiatus, there were significant changes in the cast. The revived series introduces Jeffrey Donovan as Detective Frank Cosgrove, Mehcad Brooks as Detective Jalen Shaw, and Hugh Dancy as lawyer Nolan Pierce, all of whom are expected to return to the new season. Additionally, Camryn Manheim as Kate Dixon and Odelya Halevi as Samantha Maroun likely will also be portraying their respective characters in the new season. The veteran actor of the series, Sam Waterston, may also feature in the upcoming round after appearing in the previous round. In an interview, he expressed his gratitude for being a part of the series and considers it a true blessing.

As one of the longest-running crime dramas on television, ‘Law & Order’ has been filming in New York since its inception and this tradition will continue for its 23rd season. While exact filming locations have not been confirmed, viewers can expect to see some familiar spots, including Foley Square and One Police Plaza, making appearances once again. Interestingly, a road leading to Pier 62 at Chelsea Piers in New York City was renamed Law & Order Way due to its frequent presence in the series. Other procedural dramas like ‘Blue Bloods’ and ‘White Collar’ have also benefited from the city’s vast and bustling backdrop.

While ‘Law & Order’ has traditionally premiered its seasons in September, the series deviated from this pattern in 2023 due to the strikes by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA). Viewers can anticipate the new season to arrive on their screens in the earliest possible time, which is the fall of 2024 if the shooting of the upcoming installment begins once the actors’ strike concludes. In the meantime, fans can revisit and rewatch earlier episodes of the series as they eagerly await the arrival of the new season.
