Lea Thompson and Kevin Pollak will arrive in Nova Scotia for their next feature. The filming of the family drama ‘What If’ will take place in Halifax and Canning, Nova Scotia, starting September 15 this year. Aaron Ashmore is also cast. Lindsay MacKay will direct, based on a script by Leanne Melissa Bishop.
The story follows Marley, new to her 40’s, who accidentally discovers she is the byproduct of a hospital birth mix-up. This sets her on the road to figuring out who her real family is, and whether it’s blood or something more. During her journey, she reconnects with an old high school love interest who had moved away and has come home. Marley is blindsided by this as they both embark on their own journeys to live their authentic lives.
Lea Thompson is the star of the ‘Back to the Future’ movies, and cult classics like ‘Howard the Duck,’ ‘Red Dawn,’ and ‘The Beverly Hillbillies.’ She recently starred in the shows ‘The Chicken Sisters’ for Hallmark and ‘The Spencer Sisters’ for The CW. As far as movies are concerned, she starred in the Lifetime movie ‘The Disappearance of Cari Farver,’ the independent movie ‘Ten Tricks,’ and the rom-com ‘Unplugging.’
Kevin Pollak, who is known for ‘The Usual Suspects’ and ‘A Few Good Men,’ was most recently seen as Special Agent Musso in Paramount+’s ‘Tulsa King.’ Before that, he starred in ‘Time of Death,’ ‘Couples Weekend,’ and ‘The Neighborhood.’ We will next see him in the indie comedy drama ‘Maid of Dishonor,’ directed by Jenna Laurenzo. The cast also includes Emily Hampshire, Theo Rossi, Nathan Lee Graham, Adam Shapiro, and Lindsey Normington.
Aaron Ashmore is recognizable as Jimmy Olsen from ‘Smallville,’ Gil Timmins from ‘Ginny & Georgia,’ Aaron in Hallmark’s ‘Mistletoe Murders,’ and William “Wheezer” Heaseman from ‘SkyMed.’ His latest credits include Ronald Dreason in Netflix’s ‘I Will Find You’ and Rick in the comedy movie ‘Suze.’ He will be back as Gil Timmins in Season 4 of ‘Ginny & Georgia’ and Aaron in Season 3 of ‘Mistletoe Murders.’
Lindsay MacKay directed ‘Wet Bum,’ which won several awards, including two Vancouver Film Critics Circle awards, ‘The Swearing Jar,’ and episodes of ‘Running with Violet.’
