A new, fantastical Hallmark romance has already started shooting! Crown Media’s ‘My Dreams of You’ is being filmed in Ottawa, Ontario. The project’s shooting began on the 13th of this month and is set to be wrapped by June 3, 2024.
The film will introduce us to the magical, ethereal dimension of Dream Land, where dream associates are assigned people for whom they build dreamscapes. These dreamscapes are made from the people’s memories before they fall asleep. The dream associate assigned to Grace McIntyre, a struggling writer, accidentally shows her the man of her dreams, a charming musician, Michael. The blunder can have serious ripple effects through the fabric of time if the two meet. Therefore, the responsible dream associate must ensure that the pair remains separated.
The Hallmark movie is employing Smyth Casting for its background performers, and a call for extras went out in late April until May 3. In particular, the role being offered was that of Principal Ben, Michael’s father, who is proud to have his son working at the family lumber mill. The casting description required a South Asian male aged 60-70 for the role. From the description, we can ascertain that Michael works in a tough family business, likely in a small-town setting where Grace is destined to meet him.
Ottawa and its surrounding areas offer a picturesque backdrop that can effortlessly transform into the charming settings required in ‘My Dreams of You.’ The captivating villages and rural landscapes, particularly to the south of the city, provide dreamlike rustic settings perfect for the film. Whether it’s rolling hills, quaint main streets, or cozy cafes, these areas can capture the essence of a close-knit community where Grace and Michael’s paths are set to cross.
The capital city is a frequent filming destination for Hallmark movies and indie filmmakers. Alongside ‘My Dreams of You,’ a number of such films are being shot around the city. These include ‘Unwrapping Christmas Romance—Olivia’s Story’ and ‘Love At Frost Sight,’ while ‘Mia’s Story,’ ’24 Karat Christmas,’ and ‘Adulthood’ will begin shooting soon in the region soon.
Many of Hallmark’s movies released during the last holiday season were filmed in Ottawa. These include Bradley Walsh’s ‘Catch Me If You Claus,’ ‘An Ice Palace Romance,’ and ‘The Christmas Detective.’ Other noteworthy and recent Ottawa-filmed movies include ‘Romance with a Twist,’ Netflix’s teen drama series ‘Geek Girl,’ and Hallmark’s historical romance ‘Paging Mr. Darcy.’
