The second season of Apple TV+’s ‘Platonic’ returns to the complicated friendship between Will and Sylvia, which is revived after several years of estrangement. The first season focused on them finding their footing again and going back to the way they were before they stopped speaking to one another. The second season begins with them back in the groove, but there are new issues that they must navigate to keep each other in their lives. These problems start to appear from the first episode itself as Sylvia plans Will and Jenna’s wedding. They host the engagement party at a place called the Vista del Sol Golf Club, which opens a can of worms that makes things more complicated. SPOILERS AHEAD.
A Real Wedding Venue Sits in for the Fictional Vista del Sol Golf Club
In ‘Platonic,’ the Vista del Sol Golf Club is located in San Diego, which is where Will moves after getting into a relationship with Jenna. In reality, there is no golf club or party venue of such a name in San Diego. The filming for the scenes featuring the place took place at the Bel-Air Bay Club located at 16801 Pacific Coast Highway in Pacific Palisades in California. The club presents a viable location for weddings and other social functions, with its picturesque ocean views, with the grounds at a one-quarter mile from beachfront, and eye-catching architecture serving as an ideal aesthetic for all situations. The club’s grounds encompass about 14 acres of space, which includes the sight of cliffs overlooking the sea.
‘Platonic’ is not the first major production to recognise the aesthetically pleasing nature of Bel-Air Bay Club. It has also served as a location for shows like ‘This is Us,’ ‘Palm Royale,’ ‘Grace & Frankie,’ ‘Café Society,’ ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm,’ ‘The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story,’ and ‘NCIS: Los Angeles,’ among others. Built during the late 1920s, the club was a major hotspot in the 30s and the 40s, with major celebrities visiting it as their regular haunt. Since then, it has evolved into a place that opens social gatherings while also creating space for sports like volleyball and paddle tennis.
In January 2025, as the devastating wildfires raged across the Pacific Palisades, the Bel-Air Bay Club property was one of the luckier ones to not sustain as much damage. Reportedly, a minor fraction of the place’s upper part was burned, but it has since undergone renovation and is back in business now. In ‘Platonic,’ it appears for the majority of the first episode, which focuses on Will almost breaking down as he ponders the possibility of settling down with Jenna. It falls upon Sylvia to center him and knock sense into him, such that the pressure of commitment doesn’t make him stray from the fact that he loves Jenna and wants to be with her.
