The Quiz With Balls Season 2 Episode 3 Recap: Island Vibe vs Turkish Pride

The audience is once again ready for another episode of big questions, bigger balls, and bigger splashes. Season 2 of Fox’s ‘The Quiz With Balls‘ brings back its signature chaos, comedy, and competition. Hosted by the ever-hilarious Jay Pharoah, with his lifeguard by his side, episode 3, titled ‘Island Vibe vs. Turkish Pride,’ serves as an amazing showdown. On one side is the Luca family, who are nothing less than a Turkish delight. On the other side is the Edmond family, who are bringing the heat and tropical energy of the islands to the platform. The players are just one wrong answer away from being pushed into the pool by the massive balls.

Both Families Enter the Game Aware of Their Weaknesses and Strengths

After Jay welcomes Luca and the Raymond family, he asks the latter to introduce themselves. First up is Alycia, who is going to be playing with her lovely and creative sister, Danielle, her stylish brother, Tristan, her beautiful partner, Raymond, and her lovely uncle, Derrick. The family hails from Jamaica and is going to be representing their roots in the competition. Upon questioning Danielle about what skills she is bringing to the table, she reveals that she plans on being the sacrifice if needed, since she is the weakest link in her family. She adds that she is here to provide positive and good energy to her family. Raymond states that his strategy for the night is to keep playing until the end.

The host moves on to the Luca family for their introduction. Yasemin is here to represent her Turkish heritage with her beautiful twin daughters, Giana and Sofia, her cousin, magnificent Mike, and his wife, sweet Sara. She explains how she is wearing a patch on her shirt to ward off evil eyes. Sofia remarks that her strongest suit is her acceptance that she may be the weakest link in the game. Hence, she is ready to take one for her family. However, they unanimously agree that Mike is the strongest among them. When Jay jokes about Yasemin’s daughters going into the pool, she doesn’t hesitate to say that she is going to follow them right after.

The Kickoff Round Delivers Some Early Eliminations and Close Calls

Wasting no time, the host announces the start of the Kickoff Round, where every correct response is worth $1,000. The categories for the round are Sports, Lifestyle, Movies, and Feeling Saucy. The Luca family is randomly chosen to go first and selects Lifestyle as their category, where they are going to have five correct answers and one wrong one. Their question is to select the blue zone regions among their options. As they lock in their answers, Yasemin expresses how nervous she is. Mike opens up about how he feels Sara is in trouble with her choice of Reykjavík, Iceland, as her answer. His suspicions turn true since she is pushed into the pool after the balls are released. Right after is the Edmond family’s turn, who have chosen to go with the category of Feeling Saucy.

For this, they must select the names of the actual sauces from their options. As they lock in their answers, Jay approaches Tristan only to joke with him by asking if he has ever seen or tasted Shiokara, which he has chosen. It is soon revealed that Tristan’s choice of Shiokara is wrong, as the family loses him to the pool. It is actually a salted seafood from Japan. The Luca family then selects Sports as their category, wherein they have to choose the events that are part of an Olympic Decathlon. Since their team has only four members left, there are going to be four correct answers out of six. After locking in their answers, Jay asks Yasemin why her family is protecting her. She proudly states that she is the person who holds the household together.

The release of the balls sends Gina right into the water since she had chosen the wrong option of 800 meters when 1,500 meters is actually part of an Olympic Decathlon. The Edmond family now faces the last remaining category of Movies. They have to select the films in which Samuel L. Jackson’s character has died. During the selection, Alycia emphasizes how she thinks she has seen the actor being killed in ‘Jurassic Park,’ but Raymond insists that he is sure that it is “another black man.” To their dismay, the released balls push both Alycia and Danielle into the water, owing to their wrong choices of ‘Die Hard With a Vengeance’ and ‘Snakes on a Plane.’ The correct answers are actually ‘Goodfellas’ and ‘Jurassic Park.’ By the end of the round, the Luca family has the lead with $7,000, while the Raymond family has $6,000.

Tensions Rise in a Head-to-Head Battle in the Double-up Round

The competition then moves on to the start of the Double-up Round, where each correct answer is worth $2,000. The categories for this round are Music, Hot Hot Hot, Small World, and Dance Party. The Edmond family first selects to go with Music, wherein they have to select the songs of Whitney Houston. Since there are only 2 of them left, there are only two correct answers for this round. Raymond and Derrick end up locking in both the correct answers: “How Will I Know” and “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.”

Next up is the Luca family, who have chosen the category of Dance Party, wherein they have to respond correctly as to which of the options are traditional dance styles. Since there are only three of them left, there are three correct answers. To their delight, Mike, Sofia, and Yasemine have correctly selected Merengue, Turkey Trot, and Quickstep. The Edmond family chooses to go with the Small World category, wherein they have to identify the brands that were found in Sweden. Once again, the balls fail to push them into the water since Derrick and Raymond have correctly chosen Absolut and Ikea as their answers.

For the remaining category of Hot Hot Hot, the Luca family has to select the American states from the options that are among the Top 10 list for the highest average temperature. After their answers are locked in, Mike confesses that he is second-guessing his answer of New Mexico. Jay further adds to his nervousness, stating that he had once done a show there, and it is actually cold. To Mike’s dismay, it turns out that his answer is indeed wrong, as his family loses him to the pool. By the end of the Double-up Round, the Luca family is in the lead with $17,000, while the Edmond family has managed to get $14,000.

Wrong Answers in the All or Nothing Round Crushes the Edmond Family’s Chance at Victory

It is now time for the All or Nothing Round, where every question is worth $10,000. However, the families have to find all the correct answers to win the money. The categories for this round are Landmarks, Games, Literature, and TV Shows. Since it is now the turn of the Luca family to go first, they select TV Shows as their category. The family has to find the sitcoms that are spin-offs of another show. Since only Yasemin and Sofia are left, there are only two correct answers. The former states how ‘Frasier’ was a show of her time, and although she hasn’t watched it, she feels it is not a spin-off.

Ultimately, Yasemin selects ‘Fresh Off the Boat’ as her answer. However, Sofia loses her to the pool since the correct answer is ‘Frasier, ‘ a spin-off of ‘Cheers.’ It is now the turn of the Edmond family, who have chosen Landmarks as their category. They have to identify the two that were completed in the 20th century. While Derrick has selected the Golden Gate Bridge, Raymond has chosen Wrigley Field. To their delight, both of these are the correct answers, helping them bag $10,000 for the question. The Luca family next makes their way on the platform in the category of Games. However, it is not until Jay reminds Sofia that if she fails, the Edmond family is going to win.

Sofia is asked to find which one is a ship or vessel in a standard game of Battleship. After much contemplation, she picks a submarine as her answer. As it turns out, it is the correct response, putting her family in the lead with $27,000. Naturally, the Edmond family now faces the remaining category of Literature, wherein they have to select the pen names among the options. While Raymond decides to go with J.R.R. Tolkien, Derrick selects Roald Dahl. Unfortunately, the rolling balls send them right into the water since Mark Twain and Lewis Carol are the actual correct answers. In the end, the Edmond family leaves with only $24,000. However, this paves the path for the Luca household to win the $100,000 grand prize in the Golden Ball Round.

A Single Slip in the Golden Balls Costs the Luca Family the Grand Prize

The Golden Ball Round commences with Jay informing Sofia that six options are going to be revealed. Among the series of six questions that will be asked following the reveal, she has to answer five of them correctly. Only then is Sofica going to succeed in walking away with the grand prize, alongside the $27,000 that her family has already won. Upon asking, she reveals that she wants to celebrate her great-grandmother, who has always been her favorite. With her family cheering for her from the sidelines, the categories for the round are revealed to be Classic Albums and Dogs. She decides to go with the latter since she has two furry pups of her own and has always had a fascination with animals.

Sofia’s options for the Golden Ball Round are Great Dane, Labrador Retriever, Chihuahua, Scottish Terrier, Shih Tzu, and Beagle. Right after, she faces the first question, which is to select the dog named after a Mexican state. She answers it correctly to a Chihuahua and moves on to the next question. Now, Sofia has to identify the dog breed of Scooby Doo. Her careful selection of a Great Dane once again takes her one step closer to the grand prize. However, she wrongly chooses a Scottish Terrier when she was asked to name the dog that was originally bred in Newfoundland. As she is pushed into the pool, Jay reveals that the correct answer is Labrador Retriever. Ultimately, the Luca family only manages to walk away with $27,000.
