Ryan Phillippe’s One Mile Starts Filming on Vancouver Island in September

Ryan Phillippe’s upcoming film ‘One Mile’ will start filming on Vancouver Island on September 9 and conclude on November 5. The drama film follows a father who, after being released from prison, tries to reconnect with his daughter by taking her on a college tour. “They soon find themselves fighting for more than their lost relationship when a murderous cult, living in the woods, pursues them,” as per the official logline.

Adam Davidson is helming the movie. He is known for directing episodes of NBC’s science fiction series ‘La Brea,’ NBC’s drama series ‘Ordinary Joe,’ and the musical series ‘Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.’ His credits also include shows such as ‘I’m Dying Up Here,’ ‘Kingdom,’ and ‘Bosch.’

The script of the film is penned by John Hlavin, who is known for writing and/or executive producing multiple episodes of television shows such as ‘The Man Who Fell to Earth,’ ‘Shooter,’ and ‘Blood Drive.’ Hlavin and Kevin Marco are also the film’s executive producers.

Ryan Phillippe stars in the film as the father and serves as a producer. Phillippe is recognized for his performances as Barry William Cox in ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer,’ Hunter in ‘Collide,’ Miller Graham in ‘The Locksmith,’ and Charley Flood in ‘Brothers by Blood.’ He previously collaborated with Hlavin on ‘Shooter.’

Phillippe will star alongside Amélie Hoeferle, who is known for playing Izzy Waller in the horror film ‘Night Swim’ and Vipsania Sickle in the fantasy movie ‘The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.’

The film is produced by Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, which has produced several shows, including ‘Tell Me a Story,’ ‘American Auto,’ and ‘Women of the Movement.’ The idea for the film was conceived by Aaron’s daughter, Jaiden Kaplan, while she was on a college tour with her father in 2019. At the time, the two were driving on a desolate highway in the Northeast, surrounded by dense forests and half-frozen lakes.

Jaiden also serves as a producer of the project, along with Aaron, Brian Morewitz, and Michael Lohmann. Kapital Entertainment earlier worked with Phillippe on the first season of ABC’s mystery anthology series ‘Secrets and Lies.’ The distribution of the film is handled by Paramount Global Content Distribution. Meanwhile, a sequel to the movie is also already in the works and the two projects are planned to be shot back-to-back.

Vancouver Island previously hosted the shooting of the iconic series ‘Supernatural’ and Gareth Edwards’ 2014 monster movie ‘Godzilla.’
