Scarlett Johansson’s next project will bring her to New York State. This is where the filming of her next movie, titled ‘Scapegoat,’ will take place. The production span is slated to be from October this year to January 2027. Ari Aster wrote the script and will also direct. The synopsis is as follows: After a popular social media influencer dies during a routine operation, the surgeon (Johansson) who performed the procedure finds her career and reputation under siege. As public outrage mounts, she becomes the target of relentless scrutiny led by the influencer’s grieving wife and fiercely protective brother, whose pursuit of answers turns increasingly adversarial. ‘Scapegoat’ is the first collab of Johansson and Aster. A24, which distrubuted Aster’s all previous movies, is in charge of distribution this time too.
Scarlett Johansson’s latest movie was ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth,’ in which we saw her as a covert-operations expert, Zora Bennett. While ‘Scapegoat’ has yet to begin filming, the BAFTA winner has a string of upcoming movies, including James Gray’s crime thriller ‘Paper Tiger,’ which will be released on November 20 this year, Netflix’s retro-futuristic animated movie ‘Ray Gun,’ which will drop on December 18 this year, Mike Flanagan’s ‘The Exorcist,’ which will be released on March 12, 2027, and ‘The Batman: Part II,’ wherein she will be seen as Gilda Dent, wife of Harvey Dent, and which will be released on February 18, 2028.
Ari Aster is the writer/director of ‘Hereditary,’ ‘Midsommar,’ ‘Beau Is Afraid,’ and ‘Eddington.’ He has established himself as a director who incorporates psychology into all his movies, regardless of genre. Needless to say, ‘Scapegoat’ brings together an acting powerhouse and a directing powerhouse, and it remains to be seen what deranged magic they pull off on the big screen.
New York served as the production base for movies like ‘Disclosure Day,’ ‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War,’ ‘Now You See Me: Now You Don’t,’ and ‘Play Dirty.’
