Hulu’s ‘The Orville’ Season 4 is finally getting production 4 years after Season 3 debuted (in June 2022). Seth MacFarlane, the protagonist and creator of the show, told the Hollywood Reporter in March this year that “Season four is written.” 4 months later, we can tell you that the fourth season will be filmed between October 19 this year and April 22, 2027, in Los Angeles and Prague, Czech Republic. Showrunner/director/writer Brannon Braga is back, along with director Jon Cassar.
‘The Orville’ Season 3 finale (Episode 10), titled ‘Future Unknown,’ shows the wedding of android Science and Engineering Officer Isaac and Chief Medical Officer Claire. Bortus becomes Isaac’s best man while Kelly becomes Claire’s maid-of-honor. Isaac invites the entire Kaylon race, and former security chief Alara also arrives, much to Claire’s joy. Bortus fails to give a worthy best man’s speech, speaking instead about the negative characteristics of the newlywed couple, after which Gordon takes over the job, pulling it off nicely. Amidst singing and rejoicing, we see Commander Kelly Grayson and Captain Ed Mercer hold hands and smile at each other.
Towards the end of the finale, we are reintroduced to Lysella Ravada, a barista from the planet Sargus 4, who reaches out to the USS Orville, asking for asylum, all to stay away from her depressed society. Ed and Kelly welcome her, and Kelly shows her around. After seeing the matter synthesizer, she tries to escape the ship with the device’s specs. However, she is caught, and Kelly shows her the disastrous outcome of a device too advanced for an unprepared society. The finale ends with Lysella realizing the grave consequences of her objective via the USS Orville’s environmental simulator and deciding to remain on the ship.
Considering how Season 3 ends, cast members we can expect to return in Season 4 include Seth MacFarlane as Captain Ed Mercer, Adrianne Palicki as Commander Kelly Grayson, Penny Johnson Jerald as Dr. Claire Finn, Scott Grimes as Lieutenant Gordon Malloy, Peter Macon as Lieutenant Commander Bortus, Mark Jackson as Isaac, J. Lee as Lieutenant Commander John LaMarr, and Jessica Szhor as Lieutenant Talla Keyali.
