Does Mochi the Dog Die in The Storm?

In ‘The Storm,’ a celebratory dinner between longtime friends turns into something more chaotic as a snowstorm traps the group in the remote cabin with no way out. Nattis is among the guests invited to the soft opening of Caroline and Filip’s Bed & Breakfast. Unlike her other friends, she is the only one uncoupled, and she brings her beloved pet dog, Mochi, as her plus one. Early on in the evening, Ossi, who is still clinging to his class clown persona, takes on the responsibility of looking after the dog. However, in an attempt to help the canine go outside to relieve himself, Ossi accidentally ends up losing him to the heavy winds of the storm. As the night progresses, he becomes convinced that he has caused Mochi’s death, which turns into a tangible fear about Nattis’ response to such a personal tragedy. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Filip Mistakes Ninni’s Fendi Boa For Mochi

Nattis notices Mochi’s absence early in his actual disappearance. Nonetheless, she remains unconcerned because she has a tracker on her pet’s leash, which confidently locates him inside the cabin. However, little does she know the dog is actually braving the awful weather outside, while his leash is in Ossi’s possession. Once the latter realizes the scope for trouble that this presents, he rushes to rid himself of the leash. Unfortunately, he only manages to make it as far as the suites before he runs into Filip. Therefore, in a rush, he ends up throwing the tracker-embedded object into the room currently being occupied by Stefan, the van driver. While the driver gets locked in the suite with Mochi’s leash, Ossi confesses the truth to Filip.

Initially, the host agrees to keep his secret. Yet, this changes when he makes a startling discovery. Sometime after the first course, a free-range rabbit, Filip finds a bulk of white fur in the trash can along with some discarded entrails. As a result, he jumps to conclusions about exactly what his brother-in-law, Chef Petter, had cooked up for the meal. In reality, no dogs were harmed in the preparation of the first course. Earlier, Ninni and Nattis had gotten into an argument, which ended with the latter throwing wine at the other, staining her pristine white ensemble. The other woman’s stylish outfit included a white Fendi fur boa.

Still reeling from the argument, Ninni attempts to wash the boa in the kitchen, but ultimately fails. As such, in a fit of rage, she throws the boa away in the trash can, where Filip later misidentifies it as Mochi’s remains. Nonetheless, neither the host nor Ossi is aware of the series of events that have led to this misunderstanding. For the same reason, they believe the dog is dead, which only further prevents the man responsible for the dog’s initial disappearance from fessing up to his mistake. Instead, he ends up helping Nattis as she embarks on a warpath against Stefan once she realizes Mochi’s leash has been locked in his room for hours.

Mochi Returns to Nattis Alive and in One Piece

When Nattis enters Stefan’s locked room, she accidentally opens the door into his face, knocking him out in the process. Initially, she’s worried about the driver and recruits Ossi’s help with the situation. However, things quickly escalate when she finds Mochi’s leash in the room. She jumps to conclusions about the possible reasons why the dog’s leash would be in the room and becomes convinced that Stefan must know about her pet’s whereabouts. For the same reason, instead of helping him, she ties him to a chair for an ensuing interrogation. As the confrontation heats up, Nattis ends up taking things too far. She brings out a blade and threatens to cut the driver’s fingers off if he refuses to tell them about Mochi’s whereabouts.

Meanwhile, Ossi, the real culprit behind the crime, watches on in guilt. Eventually, as it begins to seem like Nattis is serious about severing fingers, he yells out a confession. The whole thing takes the woman off-guard, and she ends up accidentally cutting Stefan’s pointer finger. In the aftermath, everyone continues to panic until Filip finds them. He becomes the voice of reason and reaches out to emergency services, who tell him to put the finger on ice until help can eventually arrive. In the kitchen, he opens a window to steal snow from outside once he realizes the refrigerator has run out. During this time, Mochi, the dog, alive and well, waltzes in through the open window and finds his way back to his owner. Nattis’ four-legged pal somehow manages to survive the snowstorm outside and ultimately returns home.
