Hollywood North will soon welcome Danielle Deadwyler. The actress will shoot her next show, ‘The X-Files,’ in Vancouver, British Columbia, starting in April this year. The Hulu detective series is a reboot of the eponymous Fox show created by Chris Carter, who is a producer on the reboot. Ryan Coogler is the writer and will also direct. Jennifer Yale is on board as showrunner. Deadwyler is the only revealed cast member yet.

The story follows FBI Special Agents Dana Scully (Deadwyler) and Fox Mulder, who are tasked with investigating cases. The two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.
Danielle Deadwyler garnered critical acclaim with her performance as civil rights activist Mamie Till in ‘Till,’ which also earned a BAFTA nomination. Her roles as Cuffee in the western drama ‘The Harder They Fall,’ Berniece in ‘The Piano Lesson,’ and Miranda Carroll in the HBO Max show ‘Station Eleven’ were also showered with praise and accolades. Her latest projects include the Netflix thriller ‘Carry-On,’ ‘The Woman in the Yard,’ and ’40 Acres.’ Among her upcoming projects are Season 3 of ‘Euphoria,’ Kevin Hamedani’s thriller comedy ‘The Saviors,’ also featuring Adam Scott and Ron Perlman, the HBO Max drama series ‘Rooster,’ co-starring Steve Carell, and the A24 crime comedy ‘The Chaperones,’ also starring Paul Dano, David Jonsson, and Cooper Hoffman.
Ryan Coogler directed ‘Sinners,’ which earned a record 16 nominations at the 2026 Oscars. It won three BAFTAs out of 13 nominations. He also helmed ‘Black Panther,’ ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,’ ‘Creed,’ and ‘Fruitvale Station.’ ‘The X-Files’ is his first show as a director.
Thriller shows that were shot in Vancouver include ‘The Night Agent,’ ‘The Hunting Party,’ ‘Untamed,’ and ‘The Irrational.’ The original ‘The X-Files’ was also filmed in the city.
