In an unexpected turn of events, her purpose dwindles when Adam takes a job at another hospital, where she is no longer needed for charity galas.
As she begins to regret not pursuing her dream, Erin receives a strange heart-shaped Christmas ornament and finds herself in an alternate reality where she is a renowned fashion designer. However, she realizes that she might have all the success in the world, but has nobody to share it with. The shooting for ‘What If Christmas’ was conducted in Ontario, particularly in and around Greater Sudbury, under the working title ‘Merry Rosy Christmas.’ Principal photography for the romantic film reportedly commenced on July 7, 2026, and went on for nearly three weeks before concluding in the last week of the same month.
Greater Sudbury, Ontario
Located in Northern Ontario, Greater Sudbury served as the primary production location for ‘What If Christmas,’ with the filming unit making the most of the city’s vast and versatile terrains. In the downtown area of Greater Sudbury, the cast and crew members were spotted taping multiple key portions on Elm Street. To depict the holiday vibe in an NYC setting, the production team transformed the area into a film set by redressing the storefronts and adding fake snow on the streets.
From what we can tell, they also set up camp inside actual establishments and residences in and around Greater Sudbury. In the strategic aerial and establishing shots, you might spot a few local landmarks and places of interest, such as Place des Arts, Ramsey Lake, Tom Davies Square, Christ the King Church, the Big Nickel, and the Science North museum. Another romantic film shot in the Nickel City is ‘Winter Love Story.’

The cast of ‘What If Christmas’ is led by Lori Loughlin and Tom Cavanagh, whose chemistry-filled performances bring the romantic tale to life. Popular for portraying Jennifer Shannon in the ‘Garage Sale Mystery’ film series, Lori also stars in ‘Summerland’ as Ava Gregory, ‘When Calls the Heart’ as Abigail Stanton, ‘Full House’ as Becky Donaldson, and ‘The New Kids’ as Abby.
