Written and directed by David Fortune, Netflix’s ‘Color Book’ is an emotional drama movie about a father-son bond that navigates a series of ups and downs. Lucky is devastated after his beloved wife’s recent passing, when he is expected to take on the challenging role of a single father to his son, Mason, who has Down syndrome. While navigating his new responsibilities, Lucky decides to take Mason to their first baseball game together.
However, during their day-long journey across Metro Atlanta, the father-son duo encounter all sorts of challenges, including car breakdowns and missed trains, testing their bond. The trip to the baseball game ends up strengthening their relationship as they show determination to get to the game despite all the setbacks. Apart from the moving and compelling performances of Will Catlett, Jeremiah Daniels, Terri J. Vaughn, and Brandee Evans, the black-and-white visuals, paired with the dynamic backdrop of Metro Atlanta, also elevated the narrative to another level.
Color Book Filming Locations
The shooting for ‘Color Book’ was conducted entirely in Georgia, specifically in Metro Atlanta. From what we can tell, principal photography for the sentimental drama began in early 2024 and wrapped after several weeks in early March of the same year. Upon the conclusion of the shooting, Jeremiah Daniels’ parents took to social media and expressed their gratitude on behalf of their son. They stated, “And just like that it’s a WRAP!!! Thank you to everyone who worked on this project and for ALL the love and support that was given to our little STAR!! WE love all of you!!”
Metro Atlanta, Georgia
In order to fill the visual canvas of ‘Color Book’ authentically, the production team decided to lens the David Fortune directorial on location in Metro Atlanta, which comprises five core counties, including Fulton, Gwinnett, Cobb, DeKalb, and Clayton. While Lucky and Mason traverse across the terrains of the metropolitan area, they pass through the city of Atlanta, which serves as the primary production location. Several train scenes involving the father and son were shot inside actual trains. Moreover, the cast and crew members set up camp at a few real-life subway stations, including the Five Points station, where they taped numerous pivotal sequences.
The filming team also recorded multiple outdoor scenes to showcase the vastness of Atlanta. Thus, in the backdrop of the exterior and establishing shots, you are likely to spot popular buildings and landmarks, including the One Coca-Cola Plaza, Marcus Trauma & Emergency Center, Centennial Olympic Park, Bank of America Plaza, World of Coca-Cola, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and more. Truist Park at 755 Battery Avenue Southeast in Atlanta also hosted the production of ‘Color Book.’ For filming purposes, the production team also seemingly traveled to the city of Decatur, the county seat of Georgia’s DeKalb County. Other notable movies and TV shows that feature Metro Atlanta are ‘Prisoners,’ ‘Regretting You,’ ‘The Idea of You,’ ‘Richard Jewell,’ ‘Into the Wild,’ ‘Jerry & Marge Go Large,’ ‘The Resident,’ and ‘Atlanta.’
