With Adrian Panek at the helm, Netflix’s ‘Colors of Evil: Black’ is a Polish crime thriller movie adapted from Małgorzata Oliwia Sobczak’s bestselling novel ‘Kolory zla. Czern.’ The narrative follows a competent prosecutor named Leopold Bilski, who is transferred to a quaint, secluded town in Kashubia in order to investigate the disappearance of a local young boy. While digging deeper into the case, Leopold uncovers some deeply-seated, unsettling links to an old missing persons case.
When the prosecutor connects a sinister local legend to the disappearances, he must do whatever it takes to get to the bottom of it all before time runs out. Originally titled ‘Kolory zla. Czern,’ the film stars a talented cast ensemble comprising Jakub Gierszał, Marianna Zydek, Zdzisław Wardejn, Róża Łukaszewicz, Beata Ścibakówna, and Adam Bobik. The suspenseful tale unfolds in a small Polish town that hides dark secrets beneath its idyllic facade.
Colors of Evil: Black Filming Locations
‘Colors of Evil: Black’ was filmed in its entirety in Poland, especially in Pomeranian Voivodeship, Greater Poland Voivodeship, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, and Lower Silesian. From what we can tell, principal photography for the thriller film took place in the course of a few months in 2025, seemingly around September and October.
Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland
To bring the dark narrative to life, the production team of ‘Colors of Evil: Black’ settled on several locations in Poland, especially in and around the Pomeranian Voivodeship. Gdańsk, the capital city of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, also served as one of the shooting spots, with filming particularly taking place on Granary Island (Wyspa Spichrzów) in the Śródmieście district as well as Partyzantów in the Wrzeszcz district. A few scenes were taped in the historic town of Gniew, nestled along the banks of the Vistula River, in the northern part of the Central European country. A few municipal institutions, including the Gniew City and Commune Office, also hosted the shooting of the Netflix production. It is located at Plac Grunwaldzki within the historic administrative center at the heart of Market Square.

Filming was also carried out at Hotel Gniew Castle within the Gniew Castle at Zamkowa 3, 83-140 Gniew. Set inside a restored 14th-century Teutonic structure, the Gothic architecture and medieval-inspired decor of the hotel and restaurant helped create the atmospheric eeriness for the thriller film. The sequence that showcases the vibrant festival scene was taped in the castle. Some scenes were also taped at the St. Nicholas Church (Kościół Rzymskokatolicki pw. św. Mikołaja) at Kursikowskiego 4. The interiors and exteriors of the Roman Catholic Church further enhanced the film’s moody tone and visual richness. The narrow streets of Gniew provided a fitting backdrop for capturing the sense of isolation and secrets the small town in the show has buried deep beneath its surface.

Interestingly, as is the case with many projects set in small towns, the production offered locals a chance to appear as extras. The community’s presence added a layer of authenticity to the film’s overall tone. The residents expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to work with actors on a real set and to experience the intricacies of filmmaking. Besides the aforementioned spots, it is likely that a portion of the shooting was conducted in Wiślany, a settlement in the administrative district of Gmina Parchowo.
Other Locations in Poland

For the purpose of shooting, the filming unit of ‘Colors of Evil: Black’ also set up camp in multiple locations in Poland, other than the Pomeranian Voivodeship. For instance, in the administrative district of Gmina Wałcz, they utilized the locales of the Gostomia village. From what we can tell, the village of Kościelna Wieś in Greater Poland Voivodeship’s Pleszew County also hosted the production of the thriller movie. Other spots that feature in the Adrian Panek directorial are Zamkowa Wola and the Grunwald Square in the city of Wrocław.
