Lifetime’s ‘He Couldn’t Let Go’ is a thriller drama movie that follows Mariana, a young woman with an exceptional ability to read body language accurately. When one of her colleagues goes on the run after a confrontation at work, she has a premonition that something is wrong. Now, what is supposed to be a peaceful and safe night at her home turns into an intense, nightmarish fight for survival. Helmed by Cory Miller, the enthralling tale of suspense unfolds primarily within the four walls of Mariana’s home, which was once a safe haven for the protagonist but has become a maze as she tries to survive.

Production on ‘He Couldn’t Let Go’ was conducted in its entirety in Minnesota, particularly in and around Duluth. According to reports, principal photography for the thriller got underway in October 2022 under the working title ‘Body Language’ and wrapped up in November of the same year. During the shoot, the cast and crew had a memorable time on set, with Minnesota’s diverse cityscape providing ideal backdrops.

Most of the pivotal sequences for ‘He Couldn’t Let Go’ were reportedly lensed across the port city of Duluth, situated on Lake Superior. The establishing shot features the tall buildings and bustling areas of Duluth, including the Great Lakes Aquarium, the Aerial Lift Bridge, the Glensheen Estate, the St. Louis County Depot, and Minnesota Point. The downtown area also served as a prominent production location, with the cast and crew seemingly taking over real-life businesses to tape numerous indoor scenes.
From the looks of it, they also set up camp in a multistory car park, where they shot key portions. To tape the scenes set inside Mariana’s residence, the crew seemingly took over an actual property in the city of Duluth. Besides the thriller movie, the city has hosted the production of several movies and TV shows over the years, including ‘The Book Club Murders,’ ‘You’ll Like My Mother,’ ‘Girl Missing,’ ‘Murder at the Lighthouse,’ and ‘A Mother-in-Law’s Obsession.’

Christina Milian and Steven Strait lead the cast of ‘He Couldn’t Let Go’ as they bring the narrative to life through their impressive onscreen performances. Besides being a talented actor, the former is also a musician with two albums in the early 2000s, including a self-titled album and ‘It’s About Time.’ Opposite her, Steven has also showcased his musical talents by performing songs in ‘Undiscovered’ and ‘Sky High.’ He has also served as a co-executive producer for ‘The Expanse’ and ‘The Expanse: One Ship.’
Christina Milian as Mariana
Christina Milian steps into the role of Mariana, who possesses the ability to read body language, in ‘He Couldn’t Let Go.’ Widely known for her portrayals of Anne in ‘Man of the House,’ Linda Moon in ‘Be Cool,’ Paris Morgan in ‘Love Don’t Cost a Thing,’ Isabelle Fuentes in ‘Pulse,’ and Layla in ‘Meet Me Next Christmas,’ she also has plenty of TV shows under her name, including ‘Dexter: Original Sin,’ ‘Step Up: High Water,’ and ‘Soundtrack.’
Steven Strait as Dylan
In the thriller film, Steven Strait dons the garb of Dylan. Hailing from New York City, the ‘Serena’ fame actor is recognizable through his work in ‘City Island’ as Tony, ‘10,000 BC’ as D’Leh, ‘The Expanse’ as Jim Holden, ‘Magic City’ as Stevie Evans, and ‘Chicago Fire’ as Flynn Calhoun. His other film and TV credits include ‘Here Awhile,’ ‘Hot,’ ‘Sleeping with the Fishes,’ ‘Revenge,’ ‘Chase,’ and ‘Third Watch.’
In addition, Annie Gonzalez and Gregg Wayans feature in the movie as Fay and Nick, respectively. Meanwhile, Robert Belushi plays the role of Calvin. Ella Ashlin and Jesse Bakken portray office workers, while Charity Helstrom and Laura Judson essay the character of Restaurant patrons. Other supporting actors featuring in ‘He Couldn’t Let Go’ include Bradley C. Daniels as Cameron/Security Guard, Keely Yulla Kemp as Server, Ryan McGivern as Derek, Brittany Parker as Katharine, Christine Weber as Dog Walker, Andrew E.
