Killer Clown: Filming Locations and Cast Details

Under the direction of Annie Bradley, Lifetime’s ‘Killer Clown’ is a psychological thriller drama movie that centers on the trauma endured by Elizabeth Helmer in her childhood when the Killer Clown killed her mother right in front of her. Decades later, Elizabeth still has nightmares about the unsolved case that traumatized her. Determined to get to the bottom of the case and avenge her mother’s death, she takes matters into her own hands and begins the investigation.

As she digs deeper into the case with the help of her husband, Dan, and father, Reed, a copycat stalker targets her, and she is forced to relive her painful childhood. Soon, Elizabeth discovers some dark secrets and betrayal within her family. Working to bring the truth to the surface, she must survive the deadly attacks from the copycat killer. A part of the network’s ‘Ripped From the Headlines’ slate, the film is inspired by true events and explores trauma and gaslighting through the perspective of Elizabeth, against the backdrop of a quaint town that harbors secrets of its own.

Where Was Killer Clown Filmed?

The shooting for ‘Killer Clown’ was conducted entirely in Ontario, particularly in and around Ottawa. Principal photography for the Lifetime production commenced around mid-April 2026 under the working titles ‘Killer Clowns’ and ‘The Clown Movie’ and continued for nearly three weeks before concluding in the first week of May of the same year. Opening up about her experience helming the project, director Annie Bradley stated: “As a director this was a challenging exploration into the emotional horrors of unresolved trauma. But we were all inspired by a brilliant cast…” All in all, bringing the thriller to life was likely a rewarding experience for the cast and crew.

Ottawa, Ontario

The capital city, Ottawa, served as the primary production location for ‘Killer Clown.’ The filming unit utilized different streets and neighborhoods across the city to tape multiple important scenes, both indoors and outdoors. According to reports, the cast and crew members also traveled a bit southwest of Ottawa to the municipality of Mississippi Mills, where they set up camp in the former mill town of Almonte.

During the shooting process, the production team was spotted taping pivotal sequences in and around the Ottawa Valley Coffee at 61 Mill Street. They also took over a few private residences on Carss Street and Thomas Street to record interior and exterior scenes. Apart from the Lifetime movie, Ottawa has hosted the production of numerous movies and TV shows, including ‘The Blackcoat’s Daughter,’ ‘The Sum of All Fears,’ ‘House at the End of the Street,’ ‘I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House,’ and ‘No Easy Days.’

Killer Clown Cast Details

Sara Paxton, Hamza Haq, and David Cubitt lead the cast of ‘Killer Clown’ and bring the suspenseful tale to life with their compelling on-screen performances. Hailing from Woodland Hills, California, Sara began her acting journey at a young age in television commercials. She has also served as a writer in ‘Mi$match.’ As for Hamza, the three-time Canadian Screen Award winner, he has a writing credit for one episode of ‘Look Kool.’ Meanwhile, David has served as an executive producer for the 2015 film ‘The Colossal Failure of the Modern Relationship.’

In ‘Killer Clown,’ Sara Paxton steps into the role of Elizabeth Helmer, the protagonist who is hunted down by a copycat killer. She is widely known for her portrayals of Erica in ‘Weapons,’ Claire in ‘The Innkeepers,’ Aquamarine in ‘Aquamarine,’ Mari in ‘The Last House on the Left,’ and Mercy Donovan in ‘Leads.’ Her TV credits include ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ ‘Based on a True Story,’ ‘Good Girls,’ and ‘Murder in the First.’

Hamza Haq as Dan

Hamza Haq dons the garb of Dan, Elizabeth’s husband, in the thriller movie. You might recognize him from ‘Transplant’ as Bashir Hamed, ‘Crashing Eid’ as Sameer, ‘The Borderline’ as Tommy Hawley, ‘In Contempt’ as Hakeem, and ‘Mistakes Were Made’ as John. Hamza has also showcased his acting prowess in multiple movies, such as ‘The Queen of My Dreams,’ ‘Broad Trip,’ ‘With Love and a Major Organ,’ and ‘My Salinger Year.’

David Cubitt as Reed

David Cubitt essays the character of Reed, Elizabeth’s father, in the Lifetime production. His face might seem familiar to many of you because he stars in several notable movies and TV shows — ‘Ali’ as Robert Lipsyte, ‘The Wall Street Boy’ as Colin Bentley, ‘American Woman’ as Agent John Spivey, ‘Medium’ as Detective Lee Scanlon, ‘Virgin River’ as Calvin, ‘Ray Donovan’ as Zack Davis, ‘Allegiance’ as Eli Bolton, and ‘Bates Motel’ as Sam Bates.
