Adapted from the Kakao webtoon ‘Field Mouse’ by Ludovico, Netflix’s ‘Mousetrap’ is a South Korean mystery thriller series created by Kim Hong-sun and Lee Jae-gon. The narrative centers on a reclusive author named Je Moon-jae, whose life is upended when his identity is stolen by a mysterious figure known as the Rat. Desperate to regain his identity and control over his assets, he enlists the help of a loan shark-turned-private investigator, No-ja. As the two join forces to uncover the mystery behind the identity theft, they find themselves in a series of unexpected perils. Originally titled ‘Deuljwi,’ the crime series is set in the bustling city, with most of the drama unfolding in the respective residences of the novelist and the loan shark.
Mousetrap Filming Locations
Production on ‘Mousetrap’ takes place entirely in South Korea, seemingly in and around Seoul. From what we can tell, principal photography for the inaugural iteration of the thriller series commenced around May 2025 under the working title ‘The Rat’ and went on for several months before wrapping up by November of the same year. During the shooting process, the cast and crew members possibly had loads of fun and created many new memories and friends on set.

Most of the pivotal sequences for ‘Mousetrap’ were possibly lensed across the sprawling city of Seoul, which likely proved to be an ideal filming destination due to its vast and versatile landscapes. Officially known as Seoul Special Metropolitan City, the capital of South Korea is popular for many landmarks and buildings, such as the Deoksugung Palace, Gwanghwamun, Lotte World Tower, Samsung Tower Palace One Tower A, the National Folk Museum, the 63 Building, and the Trade Tower. It is likely that a few of them feature in the backdrop of numerous outdoor or establishing shots.
From the looks of it, the production team of the South Korean series seemingly took over several real-life establishments and businesses to tape important interior scenes. It is also possible that they used the amenities of a few sound stages at one of the film studios in and around Seoul to shoot both indoor and outdoor scenes. Apart from ‘Mousetrap,’ Seoul has served as a prominent production location for multiple movies and TV shows over the years, such as ‘Oldboy,’ ‘Parasite,’ ‘The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil,’ ‘Sympathy for Lady Vengeance,’ ‘The Bourne Legacy,’ ‘Squid Game,’ ‘The Silent Sea,’ and ‘All of Us Are Dead.’
