Netflix’s ‘Olympo’ follows Spain’s top Pirineos High Performance Center athletes as they go beyond their bodily limits and make sacrifices for their sport. The narrative explores the lengths that individuals go to in order to reach the top. This question becomes particularly serious for Amaia, the captain of the national synchronized swimming team. When her best friend and teammate, Núria, unexpectedly defeats her, Amaia begins to see that there is a trend of performance improvements among some athletes that she cannot fathom. The sports drama created by Jan Matheu, Laia Foguet, and Ibai Abad tackles intense themes related to the bodies of athletes and doping in sports. As seen in the trailer, the show features stunning locations ranging from football fields, swimming pools, sports centres, and scenic mountains, which add depth to its framing.
Olympo Filming Locations
‘Olympo’ is shot almost entirely in Spain, the country the production belongs to. Its topography, landscapes, and sports facilities make it an ideal space to film the show. Most of the filming process is set in the beautiful city of Madrid, particularly at Estadio Municipal Santo Domingo, Alcorcón. Madrid is well known for its eye-catching aesthetics and film-friendly locations. Principal photography took place between August 5, 2024, and December 14, 2024. The idyllic mountainous region of Panticosa, Huesca, is also featured in the athletic drama. The filming spots add a sense of authenticity to the overall narrative and feel of the show.
Community of Madrid, Spain
Due to its extensive list of filming-friendly locations and urban features, Madrid was chosen to film important sequences in the show. Madrid is also known for a vibrant sports culture centered around football. Estadio Municipal Santo Domingo is a football stadium located at Avenue de Esteban Márquez in Alcorcón. It is currently the home ground of the Agrupación Deportiva Alcorcón football club. Owned and run by the local municipality, it has been an active stadium since 1999, when Real Madrid played a friendly match. It serves as the space to film several athletic and team-based scenes in the show. The trailer shows the viewers glimpses of football events at a large arena. The stadium can accommodate nearly 5,100 spectators, providing an intimate atmosphere for football and other events.
Huesca, Spain
Owing to its scenic spaces and a stunning mountainous territory, Panticosa serves as an important location for the making of the show. It is a town located in the province of Huesca, Aragon, Spain. During the late 19th century and early 20th century, it was a successful spa town, well known for its pure mountain waters, which were believed to cure liver diseases and herpes. Certain outdoor scenes in the show feature spaces in the town. As evident in the show, exterior scenes with mountains in the background look stunning and add to the viewer’s experience as a whole. Panticosa also offers attractions such as the Aramón Panticosa ski resort in winter and scenic hiking trails. The popular Pasarelas de Panticosa (hanging footbridges) are also situated here.
In an interview with La Revuelta, Clara Galle, who plays Amaia Olaberria in the series, said that she did synchronized dancing training to demonstrate her fitness and also performed some gymnastics exercises on set, and that she had to get in shape to play her character. Balneario de Panticosa is a grand hotel in an upscale spa resort located at Carretera Balneario, Kilómetro 10 in Panticosa, Spain. As seen in the trailer, it most likely serves as the location that houses the Pirineos High Performance Center in the show. Situated 1636 meters above sea level, it is surrounded by the Pyrenees mountains. It offers experiences such as mountain biking, hiking, water sports, and cross-country skiing in the winter season. The scenes featuring intense athletic practice sequences involving the primary characters are likely shot here.
