Based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man Noir, Prime Video’s ‘Spider-Noir’ stars Nicholas Cage as the aging, down-on-his-luck private investigator, Ben Reilley. Created by Oren Uziel, the superhero noir crime series is set in an alternate universe within Sony’s ‘Spider-Man’ Universe franchise. When a personal tragedy occurs, the seasoned private investigator is forced to confront his troubled past life as the Spider, the only superhero in 1930s New York City. Now, as a fresh, dangerous case emerges, Ben must tap into his past and don the garb of the Spider to become the city’s savior once again. The action show teleports viewers back in time, set in the Big Apple of the 1930s, which provides an interesting visual palette.
Spider-Noir Filming Locations
Production on ‘Spider-Noir’ was conducted primarily in California, especially in and around Los Angeles. From what we can tell, principal photography for the inaugural iteration of the superhero show got underway in August 2024 under the working title ‘Old Fashioned’ but was temporarily halted due to the unfortunate Southern California wildfires in January 2025. A few weeks later, the shooting resumed and concluded by March 2025. The crew members used black-and-white cameras and filters in order to capture the essence of the original 1930s noir films, such as long shadows. The digital footage was then split and processed into monochrome and colored formats.
Los Angeles, California

Despite the tale of the Spider unfolding in New York City, a majority of ‘Spider-Noir’ was lensed in the Southern Californian city of Los Angeles. Given the versatility of the City of Angels, it could be doubled as the NYC of the 1930s. The cast and crew members of the Nicholas Cage starrer were spotted taping pivotal sequences in downtown LA. Moreover, in January 2025, they set up camp in the neighborhood of San Pedro. To be specific, the Fort MacArthur Museum at 3601 South Gaffey Street in San Pedro, along with its surrounding areas, was turned into a film set. Los Angeles is home to many film studios, such as Los Angeles Center Studios, Warner Bros. Studios, Paramount Pictures Studios, Raleigh Studios Hollywood, and more, one of which was seemingly utilized to bring the narrative to life.

During an interview with Coming Soon, one of the cast members, Lukas Haas, talked about the filming process of ‘Spider-Noir.’ He revealed, “We filmed it in — I think it may come out in both black and white and color, but when we filmed it, the monitors were all black and white, so you got this feeling and it looked very, very authentic. To the point that I would actually go and look at the monitor and think I was looking at some older footage, but it was actually just a monitor of what was on the camera at the time. They did a beautiful job with the filters and all that stuff, making it look like genuine old 1930s, black and white film. But obviously, just the writing, and Nic is incredible. It’s just a really fun project and I cannot wait to see how it turns out.”
