Created by Megan Park, Prime Video’s ‘Sterling Point’ is a coming-of-age mystery drama series that follows a 17-year-old New York City-based girl named Annie Jacobson, who leads a regular life with her twin brother and single, adoptive father. Her ordinary life takes a sudden turn, for better or for worse, when she unexpectedly inherits her estranged grandfather’s lake island in Canada. Perplexed and shocked, Annie takes a trip to the mysterious island and meets Ramona, who claims to be her sister of sorts.
While the two ladies share their late grandfather’s cottage, they must navigate their differences. Moreover, Annie bonds with other island inhabitants, forming friendships and romantic connections in an attempt to try and uncover family secrets. Featuring Ella Rubin, Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie, Amélie Hoeferle, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Daniel Quinn-Toye, and Bo Bragason, the show is set on a fictional lake island called Sterling Point, which harbors mysteries and secrets beneath its quaint and innocent facade.
Sterling Point Filming Locations
Production on ‘Sterling Point’ is conducted in Ontario, specifically in Muskoka Lakes, Toronto, Severn, Caledon, and Halton Hills. From what we can tell, principal photography for the debut season of the drama show commenced in June 2025 and went on for about four months before wrapping up in October of the same year.
Muskoka Lakes, Ontario
In order to depict the scenes set on the titular island, the production team of ‘Sterling Point’ made the most of the natural terrains of the Township of Muskoka Lakes. Situated on the Canadian Shield, the municipality is surrounded by evergreen trees and igneous rock, allowing the makers to double it for the fictional island. In particular, Mortimer’s Marina at 1930 Mortimer’s Point Road and the surrounding areas in Muskoka Lakes served as prominent production locations. Several boat and water scenes were also taped on Lake Joseph, also known as Lake Joe.
During a conversation with The Suburban, creator Megan Park explained the significance of shooting in Muskoka Lakes. She stated, “We had the opportunity in this show to really showcase Muskoka for Muskoka, and what’s actually happening in that area. That history includes the dispossession of Indigenous land, longtime cottage owners with generational ties to the region, and newer arrivals buying larger properties and building multimillion-dollar homes. Ellis lives at that fault line — bound to the island by history and labor, watching a place that is his home be priced and appraised by people for whom it is a luxury.”
Toronto, Ontario
For the purpose of filming, the cast and crew of the mystery series also traveled to Toronto, which seemingly doubled for the Big Apple, where Annie lives with her twin brother and father at the beginning. Besides that, the team reportedly used the facilities at The Backlot Film Studios, located at 40 Butterick Road in the administrative district of Etobicoke, in the western region of Toronto. Just a few minutes away from the downtown area, the film studio is home to two sound stages with professionally designed soundproofed walls, production offices, cast green rooms, a parking lot, and a 5,000 square foot carpentry shop. All these facilities make it an ideal filming site for different kinds of projects, including the Megan Park creation.
Other Locations in Ontario
Additional portions for ‘Sterling Point’ were also reportedly shot in other areas of Ontario, including the town of Caledon. The production team was spotted recording pivotal sequences around Sparrow Lake Camp at 1437 United Church Camp Lane in the township of Severn. To tape more scenes set in Sterling Point, the filming unit also set up camp in the hamlet of Glen Williams in the town of Halton Hills in the month of June 2025.
