In Lifetime’s ‘The Ocean Between Them,’ Joan and her young daughter, Miranda, go on vacation to Belize to relax and spend quality time together. During the trip, the mother and daughter get into a heated verbal altercation, after which Miranda goes kayaking all alone. In an unexpected turn of events, a storm arrives, leaving the young kayaker stranded at sea. Now, Joan’s world turns upside down as she can’t find her daughter anywhere.
While Miranda tries to survive the elements, her mother embarks on a dangerous mission to find her against all odds, a journey that tests Joan to the limit. Helmed by Gabriel Correa, the survival thriller movie is inspired by true events and explores themes of motherhood and how even the vast ocean cannot break the bond between a mother and daughter. With the ocean’s waves providing a constant backdrop, the tale unfolds in Belize, where Miranda and Joan go vacationing.
Where Was The Ocean Between Them Filmed?
The shooting for ‘The Ocean Between Them’ took place in Manitoba and Belize, particularly in Winnipeg and Placencia. From what we can tell, principal photography for the Lifetime production commenced in late May 2026 and concluded a couple of weeks later in June of the same year. During the shoot, the cast and crew members had a wonderful time on set as they returned home with loads of memorable experiences and new friends.
Winnipeg, Manitoba
The capital of Manitoba — Winnipeg — served as a prominent production location for ‘The Ocean Between Them.’ The scenes set in the city where Joan and Miranda reside were seemingly lensed across Winnipeg, with the production team setting up camp on residential streets and in other neighborhoods. In the establishing shots, you might also spot numerous local landmarks and buildings, such as the Esplanade Riel bridge, the Manitoba Legislative Building, 300 Main, Manitoba Hydro Place, and more. Other notable films and TV shows shot in Winnipeg include ‘The Long Walk,’ ‘Normal,’ ‘Psycho Killer,’ ‘Bullet Train,’ ‘The Italian Job,’ ‘Clown in a Cornfield,’ ‘Channel Zero,’ and ‘Storm of the Century.’
Placencia, Belize
To tape the vacation scenes involving Joan and Miranda on location, the filming unit of the Lifetime production actually traveled to Belize. To be specific, they took over the small village of Placencia, where they recorded many pivotal sequences. From the looks of it, the cast and crew members also utilized Placencia Beach to depict a few kayaking scenes featuring Miranda. Various establishments and properties were transformed into film sets for multiple indoor sequences. According to reports, the production team was also spotted taping key portions near St. George’s Caye, an island located eight miles east of Belize City.
The Ocean Between Them Cast Details
Through their compelling performances, Jessica Lord and Rebecca Gayheart helped bring the thrilling narrative of ‘The Ocean Between Them’ to life. Before breaking into the film industry, Jessica was a professional dancer who specialized in contemporary, hip-hop, and ballet. Aside from being an actor, Rebecca has also served as a director on a 2002 short film titled ‘Me and Daphne.’ Interestingly, she garnered massive pop-culture fame in the 90s due to her appearance in Noxzema skin cream commercials. She was also married to the late actor Eric Dane, best known for his work in ‘Euphoria,’ since 2004. While the two had separated sometime in the late 2010s, they remained close friends and co-parented their daughters, Billie and Georgia, until Eric’s passing from ALS complications in 2026.
Jessica Lord as Miranda
In the Lifetime production, Jessica Lord essays the character of Miranda, the young kayaker who gets stranded at sea in Belize. Widely recognized for her portrayal of Lena Grisky in ‘Find Me in Paris,’ the talented actor also features in ‘Christmas in the Spotlight’ as Bowyn Sykes, ‘Binged to Death’ as Sienna, and ‘The Real Bros of Simi Valley: The Movie’ as Ventura. Her other TV credits include ‘The Next Step,’ ‘Party of Five,’ ‘Paranormal Witness,’ and ‘Ransom.’
Rebecca Gayheart as Joan
Rebecca Gayheart dons the garb of Joan, Miranda’s mother, who searches for her missing daughter in ‘The Ocean Between Them.’ Throughout her decades-long career, Rebecca has given some memorable performances in movies and TV shows. You might find her face familiar from her work in ‘Urban Legend’ as Brenda, ‘Nothing to Lose’ as Danielle, ‘Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood’ as Billy Booth, and ‘Jawbreaker’ as Julie Freeman. She also appears in TV shows like ‘What I Like About You,’ ‘Dead Like Me,’ ‘The Division,’ ‘Vanished,’ and ‘The Cleaner.’ Rebecca and Eric Dane’s daughter, Georgia Dane, also stars in the thriller as Ashley. In addition, Karl Walcott and Adrian Garbutt also feature in supporting roles as Luke and Captain Gonzalez, respectively.
