Adapted from the bestselling novel titled ‘The Dinner Club’ written by Saskia Noort, Netflix’s ‘The Perfect Lie’ is a Dutch mystery thriller drama series created by Dorien Goertzen. It follows Karen and her family as they relocate to Bergen. There, they receive an invitation to join an exclusive dinner club that includes other couples who lead extravagant, hedonistic lives. The dynamics between the four couples change after a fire erupts in one of the luxurious villas, resulting in the death of their friend Evert.
Fortunately, Evert’s wife and children manage to survive the disaster. Soon, as several secrets unravel, Karen realizes that their friendships are built mostly on lies and questions everything she knows about them. She makes it her mission to get to the bottom of it all and unearth the truth, even if it costs her these friendships. Originally titled ‘De Eetclub,’ the crime series is set in a seemingly quaint town, with the couples’ lavish houses serving as additional characters, reflecting their respective personalities in one way or another.
The Perfect Lie Filming Locations
Production on ‘The Perfect Lie’ was conducted across the Netherlands, especially in North Holland, South Holland, and Utrecht. Principal photography for the debut season of the suspenseful series got underway in June 2025 and concluded after about six months, in December of the same year. Since the story unfolds in the Netherlands, the makers decided to add a layer of authenticity by shooting the show on location across different towns and villages.
North Holland, Netherlands
A major chunk of ‘The Perfect Lie’ was reportedly lensed in the province of North Holland, located in the northwestern part of the Netherlands. To be specific, the Dutch capital, Amsterdam, served as a prominent production location for the mystery show. Its extensive canal system, which earned Amsterdam the nickname the Venice of the North, likely features in the backdrop of multiple outdoor scenes. You might also spot other popular landmarks, such as the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum, the Royal Palace of Amsterdam, Dam Square, and more.
In the municipality of Bergen, the cast and crew members set up camp in the seaside resort of Bergen aan Zee, known for its pristine beaches and dunes. The filming unit also utilized the locales of the village of Schoorl, situated within Bergen municipality, to tape numerous key portions for ‘The Perfect Lie,’ including the Beach Restaurant Prince George at Strand Camperduin 10. Other pivotal sequences were also recorded in the municipality of Huizen and the port town of IJmuiden, located in the municipality of Velsen.
Other Locations in the Netherlands
For the purpose of shooting, the production team of the Dutch crime series also traveled to other locations in the Netherlands, including the province of South Holland. During the filming process, the cast and crew members were spotted lensing important scenes in the capital city of South Holland — The Hague. Besides that, the seaside resort of Katwijk aan Zee and the town of Voorburg also hosted the production of ‘The Perfect Lie.’ Furthermore, numerous key portions of ‘The Perfect Lie’ were shot on location in the village of Lage Vuursche and the town of Zeist.
