Netflix’s ‘The Truthers’ is a Spanish thriller drama movie that chronicles the strange journey of a 30-year-old woman named Ruth, who leads an estranged life away from her parents. But when her mother passes away suddenly under mysterious circumstances, she travels to her hometown and reunites with her father, Martín. She notices that his father has become grumpy after his retirement and has been obsessed with an evil conspiracy theory.
Moreover, when Ruth’s relationship with Martín doesn’t seem to improve due to his strange behavior, she can’t help but wonder if her father had something to do with her mother’s demise. Originally titled ‘Los Creyentes,’ the Roger Gual directorial features a talented ensemble cast comprising Jose Coronado, Stéphanie Magnin, Alberto Olmo, Mabel Del Pozo, and Fanny Gautier. The suspenseful tale primarily unfolds in and around Ruth’s family home, which serves as an additional character concealing some dark truths within its four walls.
The Truthers Filming Locations
‘The Truthers’ was reportedly filmed in Spain and Germany, particularly in Asturias, Madrid, and Berlin. According to reports, principal photography for the Netflix production got underway in March 2025 and seemingly continued for about a couple of months before concluding in late spring of the same year. With the premiere of the film approaching, Stéphanie Magnin, who portrays Ruth, took to social media and shared a few words of gratitude, stating, “To @rogergual for being a dedicated director and making a team, sharing and creating together with freedom and affection, I would always repeat with you.” She also acknowledged the efforts of the technical department as she adding, “To all the technical team, makeup, hair, you are the best, many many thanks.”
Asturias, Spain
A significant portion of ‘The Truthers’ was lensed in the autonomous community of Asturias, located in northwest Spain. The filming unit set up camp in the area around the Valdemurio Reservoir, which is situated in the middle of the Vía Verde de la Senda del Oso, where they shot numerous key outdoor scenes against the backdrop of the Sierra del Aramo mountains. In the second week of March 2025, they were also spotted around the hiking and bicycle path, Senda del Oso, specifically between El Palacio and the El Pantalán area. The municipalities of Mieres and Langreo also served as prominent production locations for the Spanish thriller. Furthermore, the cast and crew members seemingly took over the streets and neighborhoods of Oviedo, the capital city of Asturias.
Madrid, Spain
For shooting purposes, the production team of ‘The Truthers’ also utilized the vast and versatile landscapes of the capital of Spain — Madrid. It is likely that its buildings and landmarks feature in the backdrop of exterior and aerial shots of the city, such as the Gran Vía, Torrespaña, Cibeles Palace, the Plaza Mayor, the Puerta de Alcalá, Hotel Riu Plaza España, and the Royal Palace of Madrid.
Berlin, Germany
Additional portions for ‘The Truthers’ were taped in the sprawling city of Berlin, the capital of Germany. Known as a global city of culture, politics, media, and science, it has served as a key production location for many movies and TV shows over the years. Some of the notable ones include ‘The Lives of Others,’ ‘V for Vendetta,’ ‘Atomic Blonde,’ ‘Until the End of the World,’ ‘The Constant Gardener,’ ‘Killing Eve,’ and ‘The Flight Attendant.’
