The summer of 2011 turned out to be a fatal and last one for Camilo Salazar, who was killed in a fit of jealousy by his secret lover’s husband, Manuel Marin. For several years after the murder, the local supermarket mogul managed to evade the police and remain hidden in Europe. However, in order to do so, he received constant help from his son, Yaddiel Marin. NBC’s podcast titled ‘Dateline: The End of the Affair’ chronicles the events that led up to the murder as well as the years-long investigation that finally led the authorities to the killer, his accomplices, and his son.
Yaddiel Marin Helped His Father Stay Under the Radar For Several Years
As the son of the co-owner of Presidente Supermarkets, Yaddiel Marin followed in his father Manuel Marin’s footsteps and handled multiple outlets. Besides that, he also got involved with the Pincho restaurant chain by becoming an investor and owning a Pincho factory. In 2011, business was booming, and everything seemed to be going well for him until Manuel got involved in the murder of Camilo Salazar, a secret lover of his wife, Jenny Marin. On June 1, 2011, Yaddiel’s father had gotten Camilo abducted by his three accomplices — Roberto Isaac, Ariel Gandulla, and Alexis Vila Perdomo — and reportedly killed him in the Florida Everglades. Soon after the murder, Manuel reportedly fled the country and eventually settled in Spain.

Meanwhile, Yaddiel stayed in Miami, Florida, and helped his father remain in hiding. After obtaining a general power of attorney from his father in July, he facilitated the divorce between him and Jenny Marin by signing the necessary documents. In September 2011, in order to transport $9,000 to his father, he reportedly hired his father’s friend, Jaime Rojas, for $7,000 and also paid for his flight and lodging. According to reports, the South Florida businessman also played a part in the sale of his parents’ marital house in Lighthouse Point. Moreover, he took the responsibility to provide Jenny with $10,000 each month in child support for her two kids with his father.
The killer’s son had opened a joint bank account at the Bank of America a week or so before Camilo’s murder, the same account he later used to send money to his father. As per Yaddiel’s live-in girlfriend, Karolyn Henao, he and she even paid a visit to Manuel in Spain in May 2016. After several years of avoiding arrest, Manuel was finally captured in Spain in August 2018, after which he was extradited to South Florida. Soon, on November 15, 2018, the authorities reportedly raided Yaddiel’s Miami Beach mansion and arrested him for helping his father stay out of prison. He faced a charge of being an accessory after the fact and was held on a $2 million bond.
Yaddiel Marin Pleaded Guilty to Lesser Charges and Avoided Jail Time
A day after his arrest, Yaddiel Marin appeared in bond after having posted $200,000 of his bond. However, the judge instructed him to post the remaining amount before his release. That day, he managed to arrange the rest of the money for his bail and was placed on house arrest with a GPS ankle monitor latched onto his ankle. Finally, the day of his trial arrived on April 4, 2019, and he pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest without violence in exchange for zero jail time.
As another part of the deal, 32-year-old Yaddiel agreed to pay $10,000 to the Denise Moon Memorial Fund, a charity managed by The Miami Foundation. As per the deal, by paying the donation, he would also have zero criminal convictions on his rap sheet. Ultimately, he was not charged with participating in the murder. His defense attorney told WLRN, “The contribution was a minor factor, a minor part of the deal for us. We didn’t give it a whole lot of thought. The major factor was what he pled to, which was resisting arrest without violence.” Ever since he avoided a prison sentence, he has seemingly been leading his life in Miami, Florida, away from the limelight.
