OWN has added a new holiday film to its upcoming winter lineup! Moviedelic can announce that the network has given the green light to the television film ‘A Season to Remember.’ The TV movie will commence filming in Hamilton, Ontario, this July. As of now, the project’s cast and crew are under wraps.
The plot revolves around a determined sports reporter and her struggles and triumphs as she works hard in her male-dominated field. As she partners with a handsome photographer, their professional journey turns into a personal adventure, seemingly revealing that pursuing dreams can lead to unexpected love and success.
OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network), traditionally known for its unscripted reality, variety, and talk shows, and acquired programming from Warner Bros. Discovery sister channels, often treats family audiences with original movies during the holidays. The network’s upcoming holiday movie roster is shaping up to be exciting with romantic titles like ‘Mistletoe and Matrimony,’ which is in production in Hamilton, and ‘24 Karat Christmas,’ directed by Winnifred Jong. These films, along with ‘A Season to Remember,’ are set to bring festive cheer to viewers later this year.
‘A Season to Remember’ is expected to take a familiar route — blending romance with journalism — as numerous cult classics have done in the past, such as ‘Down with Love’ and ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.’ Moreover, journalism-themed content has also seen a significant resurgence this year. The indie film ‘Cold Copy’ highlights the fierce competition within journalism, exploring how gender and racial discrimination are not the only barriers but jealousy, fame, and socio-economic differences create setbacks.
Netflix’s ‘Scoop,’ starring Gillian Anderson, focuses on the infamous 2019 BBC television interview of Prince Andrew. Moreover, Alex Garland’s ‘Civil War’ portrays journalists embedded with military units rushing toward Washington, D.C., set against a dystopian backdrop.
Hamilton’s climate provides a versatile backdrop for filming, particularly for holiday-themed projects. The Ontarian city will soon be hosting the production of the third season of ‘Run the Burbs’ and the new sitcom ‘Small Achievable Goals,’ both produced by CBC. The region continues to be a popular location for various local and international film and television projects, offering diverse settings and a supportive production environment.
