Helmed by Caitlin Sponheimer, the Lifetime thriller drama movie ‘The Monster She Married’ follows a young woman named Shelley Charalambous, who was groomed as a minor by Joseph, her pediatrician. Manipulated and abused, she eventually becomes his wife, seemingly getting trapped in a marriage forever. Things take a dark turn when one of Joseph’s teenage patients is murdered days before testifying against him. As secrets start to surface, Shelley finds herself compelled to confront Joseph and call him out for what he really is: a killer. Based on the true-crime book ‘Fatal Prescription: A Doctor Without Remorse’ by John Griffiths, ‘The Monster She Married’ has Shelley take control of her immediate surroundings, which have long served as a prison for her.
Where was The Monster She Married Filmed?
Principal photography of ‘The Monster She Married’ was carried out in British Columbia, specifically in Vancouver. Filming took place over a couple of weeks in the month of December, 2025. Actor Matthew Morrison, in an interview with TV Insider, shared his thoughts on being part of the movie. “This one was actually really a pleasure for me, even though it was challenging to dive into that kind of world…I’ve never done a Lifetime thing before. The care that they took in this process was really reassuring, and the care that they brought to the set was beautiful. I thought the whole thing was really well done. I’m proud of what we came up with,” he stated.
Vancouver, British Columbia

Also known as Hollywood North, Vancouver is a go-to spot for budget-friendly film production, with many Hollywood film companies choosing the city as their base. Lifetime has long been using Vancouver for its film production, and ‘The Monster She Married’ is no exception. Given that a major portion of the movie was shot indoors, the crew may have set up shop in a real residence, since the city offers a wide range of shooting locations. ‘It was important for me to really establish a relationship with Molly, who’s the actress playing Shelley,” actor Matthew Morrison told TV Insider. “I literally flew to Vancouver, and I got Molly’s contact. I asked to have some sort of meal beforehand. We ended up having a great meal, just talking about life, and how this story resonates with us.”
There are also local studios that provide customizable sets and dedicated crews, which make for a more streamlined filming process. The team may also have opted for such a studio, considering that network features are shot in a matter of a few weeks. For outdoor scenes, Vancouver provides scenic urban landscapes as well as natural terrain. TV movies like Hallmark’s ‘A Knight to Remember’ and Lifetime’s ‘Don’t Trust the Girls Upstairs’ were also filmed in Vancouver. For those planning to visit the city, some must-see landmarks are Science World, Vancouver Art Gallery, Lions Gate Bridge, Stanley Park, and the historic neighborhood of Gastown.
