NBC’s medical show ‘Brilliant Minds’ AKA ‘Dr. Wolf,’ starring Zachary Quinto, has begun filming in Mississauga, Ontario. The shooting will conclude on August 6. Michael Grassi serves as the showrunner of the series, which is based on Oliver Sacks’ books, ‘The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat’ and ‘An Anthropologist on Mars.’
The show centers on the charismatic and larger-than-life neurologist Oliver Wolf and his team of interns, as they explore the last great frontier, the human mind, while also grappling with their own relationships and mental health. Dr. Wolf is the head of neurology at the Bronx General and an obsessive genius. He’s drawn to people who society has deemed “other” and helps them find hope and purpose. He embraces differences rather than suppressing them.
Quinto portrayed Sam in the eleventh season of FX’s ‘American Horror Story’ and a chaperone in ‘Boys on Film 23: Dangerous to Know.’ The latter is an anthology that explores ten global encounters, revealing emotional outcomes from risky attractions and emphasizing the timeless allure of taking chances. Quinto’s diverse roles include Jim in ‘He Went That Way’ and Gore Vidal in James Graham’s drama ‘Best of Enemies.’ Headlining the cast of ‘Dr. Wolf’ marks Quinto’s homecoming since the actor first gained recognition by portraying Gabriel “Sylar” Gray in NBC’s ‘Heroes.’
In addition to Quinto, the cast of the series includes Teddy Sears (‘The Flash’), Ashleigh LaThrop (‘The Handmaid’s Tale’), Spence Moore II (‘Creed III’), Tamberla Perry (‘They Cloned Tyrone’), Alexander MacNicoll (‘Transparent’), and Aury Krebs (‘Leverage: Redemption’). Donna Murphy, who plays Mrs. Astor in HBO’s ‘The Gilded Age,’ will recur. However, specific details about their characters are yet to be revealed.
Grassi and Lee Toland Krieger, who directed the pilot, serve as executive producers. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman executive produce for Berlanti Productions, along with Henrik Bastin and Melissa Aouate of Fabel Entertainment. Andy Serkis, Jonathan Cavendish, and Will Tennant are executive producers for The Imaginarium. DeMane Davis is also an executive producer. The series is a collaborative production between Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television, with Berlanti Productions, Grassi, and Krieger operating under overall deals at WBTV.
Mississauga previously hosted the shooting of Sofia Coppola’s ‘Priscilla’ and Netflix’s ‘Sex/Life.’
