Habeas Corpus Season 2 Cast and Plot Theories

Season 1 of ‘Habeas Corpus’ brings a conclusive end, earning Inez and her ragtag team of law students one tangible win against an unjust system. After years of trauma-induced estrangement, the defense lawyer returns to the courtroom, where she unveils the true face of Cristina Ogini, the Head of the Civil Force. Six years ago, the latter used the Vasquez double homicide trial to progress her own career and condemned an innocent man to a life of imprisonment in the process.

Nonetheless, after the wrongful conviction stands for six whole years, Inez is able to overturn it and ensure Jonathan’s freedom. Yet, this only marks the first in what is sure to be a long line of battles for the lawyer and her team of justice-seekers. Yet, at the time of writing, no official announcement has been made about the future of the series. Even so, in the event of a speedy renewal, season 2 of ‘Habeas Corpus’ could come out sometime in 2028.

Habeas Corpus Season 2 Might Revolve Around Eliane’s Case

From the beginning, Marina earns a place for herself in Inez’s study group with one specific purpose in mind. Eight years ago, the latter fought a case for a corrupt politician that landed Eliane in prison. During the courtroom trial, the defendant’s husband shot the lawyer in an unsuccessful attempt on her life. Even though Inez survived, she emerged from the experience with a newfound regret for the unethical part she played in Eliane’s conviction. Marina, whose real name is actually Larissa, is the daughter of the same defendant-turned-convict. Instead of revenge, the daughter wants to learn from the lawyer so that she can eventually earn her own mother’s freedom.

Over the course of season 1, Larissa and Inez manage to find a sense of friendship and camaraderie between them despite the truth of the sordid past they share. Thus, once they manage to win the fight for Jonathan’s freedom, their next objective is clear: overturning Eliane’s conviction. Therefore, in season 2, we can expect this case to take center stage as Inez sets out to right a past wrong, but more importantly, bring an innocent woman to justice. Since the end of season 1 reveals that Eliane is actually innocent and had only taken the fall for her daughter’s crime, the case becomes all the more complex and intriguing. It’s possible that once Inez delves into Elaine’s past, they will have to reckon with this precarious truth.

Habeas Corpus Season 2 Will Likely See the Return of the Original Cast

Despite the confirmation of a second season, ‘̆Habeas Corpus’ leaves plenty of room open for the possibility of a continuation. Notably, much of this possibility lies within the progression of the storylines revolving around existing characters and their narratives. Therefore, in the event of a season 2, much of the old cast can be expected to make a comeback. Marjorie Estiano (Inez) will likely reprise her role as the defense lawyer who acts as the glue holding the rest of the group together. The same can be expected for Any Gabrielly, who portrays Marina/Larissa.

Likewise, the rest of the central group itself, including Bernardo, Lima, Raquel, and Kim, are likely to return for a potential season 2. The study group’s newfound connection to the law firm can also lead to a comeback for characters like Murilo (Vladimir Brichta), Ana (Natália Lage), and Pedro (Danton Mello). On the other hand, Naruna Costa can also return as Eliane, especially if the series decides to pitch her case as the narrative nucleus in its sophomore season. Lastly, as Inez’s clientele grows, and with it her list of enemies, some new faces can also be expected to join the series cast list.

Habeas Corpus Season 2 Will Continue to Follow the Study Group in Their Internship

By the end of ‘Habeas Corpus’ season 1, Inez’s study group takes on a new form. The professor ends up teaming up with her old law firm, which agrees to back up their endeavor in an attempt to fix their own breach of ethics. As a result, the firm ends up hiring her students, Larissa, Kim, Lima, Bernardo, and Raquel as interns. This allows the aspiring attorneys to remain engaged in the case in a more official capacity while also offering them a way to further their careers. In the aftermath of Jonathan’s case, the gang is still working at the law firm, steadfast on the same mission they set out to achieve in the beginning.

Now that the success story of Jonathan’s case has reached the public, Inez and her team are being approached by more and more people requesting their counsel for similar cases. The same injustices that orchestrated the former inmate’s wrongful conviction have been a life-ruining force for many others. Thus, there’s always more work to be done. Even if season 2 chooses to focus on Eliane’s case, it’s possible that the group will juggle multiple investigations and criminal reviews, allowing different members of the team to chart their own paths. Alternatively, as the story continues to grow, the personal lives of Larissa and the others will also become a source of narrative expansion.
